Was there an article in the New York Times recently ...about House Hunters?

My co-worker was all shocked about it saying it said the HH search was faked. I said, "Oh, please. That is SUCH old news." She said "Oh really?! I never knew." And then I went on to explain.

She said the article was in the last month or so???
I looked but couldn't find anything that seemed to fit the bill.

CLB, yes there was an article - Christopher Lowell also blogged about this (HH Busted) awhile back. I'm surprised too - thought everyone knew that. It's been more or less common knowledge for several years.

The story originated on the Hooked on Houses blog, about someone from Texas who appeared on HH. Other news sites picked up on the story. IMO, it is much ado about nothing.

Now, here's a story from a blogger who appeared on HHI: http://www.matt-gibson.org/201...nal-is-fake-so-what/

I think we should call Woodward and Bernstein to investigate this story. Don't you?

Christopher wrote this piece just a few weeks ago, right after the original blog story appeared. Here it is: http://www.christopherlowell.c...ractive/blog/?p=1641

Not exactly a stinging indictment of HH and other reality-based TV shows. It's sort of like: "OMG. You mean WWE wrestling shows are not real. I'm shocked. Just shocked."

Thanks. My co-worker didn't have much info about it. I couldn't find it.

Like I've said ...I've known it's fake for years. I'm just curious about the article.
----------------
HERE"S WHAT I POSTED:

"I think it's very disappointing. No, it's not on the level of issues involving war and peace, but these shows are not presented as scripted and totally fake. They are presented as real. Yet, they are a lie.

When I watch Breaking Bad or Mad Men -- those are created characters played by actors. The fact that shows like House Hunters and HHI will say a friend was a real estate agent and someone lived in Taiwan when they didn't is a total fabrication. Then present it as such. In the credits. Put something like: "these situations are fictional," or "some statements as presented my not be factual."

Why can't they, or don't they, do that? Why can't they be upfront about it?"

Achihuahua - Thanks for sharing the Christopher Lowell link. It would be wonderful if they would bring one of his shows to HGTV. He frequently went that one tschotske too many for my tastes, but he was so informative you could over look it.

He really spelled out "reality" television very well and explained the problem with most of HGTV's programming.

Yeaaa! Christopher.

HGTV will probably never have Christopher Lowell on - IMO, he has too much integrity and is too real to be caught up in their antics. I adore this man - I know from experience that he is extremely kind and willing to help out & encourage new design businesses!

I usually make everyone think I'm amazing because I can predict which house they're going to pick because it's always the one with no furniture in it. I have never revealed the fact that HH is staged to anyone who wasn't completely surprised by this news, so I guess it's not common knowledge.
