OMG what has happend to this girl? This room was scarry. Can you say 1960's. Nothing was even pretty here. What happened to her on the break? This "brown" divider was something we had in our Trailer in 1964, well my parents did...

KayTampa,

I agree. She put in all kinds of things that other designers say to take out because the items are dated. I love the outdoors, but that makeover, especially the fungus green walls, does not work for me. I guess the only thing that matters is that the owners seemed to love it.

I flashed on the 60's look as well!

Did you notice, other the the sconces on water feature wall and DR chandy....there were no other sources of light in the room!

IMO...what a major miss.

I wondered about the name change of the show from HGTV Great Rooms to Meg's Great Rooms. This is only her second season.

There were parts I really loved but the overall look was too 60sish for me. I loved the new railing between the DR & LR. And liked the fountain altho I am not really a big fan of them in the house. I liked the table and buffet but feel the color of the chairs and buffet didn't meld with the LR colors. I really did NOT like the light fixture in the DR...just too much texture in that room.

One thing I did notice is that Meg didn't do any cheap "crafty" stuff for the rooms. Maybe this is no longer a requirement.

Either HGTV hasn't been advertising as much, or I'm simply not watching much HGTV anymore- because I didn't know this show was back with new episodes.

Ironically, I DID record several others on Saturday (hoping to watch some of them today when I have time)- but once the listings started saying "House Hunters", my eyes kind of glazed over and I stopped looking. Wink

I'll have to look for it next week.

They revamped a show that didn't need revamping!

Sorry for the late commentary - too many design programs on 1 evening.

Loved the walnut floors. To me, that was the best thing Meg did for the couple. Also liked the 2 room dividers and the 2 l/r zones. Thought the room(s) overall had major scale issues, however.

Instead of highlighting the focal point of the l/r, i.e. her water feature, with a smaller rug, she purchased a much larger rug, covering the entire l/r. In addition, WRT her space planning, she placed 2 oversized sofas (with a too small, cheap coffee table) so far apart that conversation might be difficult.

Although I liked the room dividers, I hated the boxes placed on them. The boxes effectively separated/closed off the spaces and the room(s) overall weren't that large. Instead of placing the boxes on the dividers - again, to highlight the water feature, I would have beefed up the built-ins surrounding it and used those accessories there. (Her placement of smaller items on those shelves felt like clutter, to me. She needed more height.)

WRT the colors, didn't believe the teal buffet and poof worked. She needed to introduce accent colors to soften the overpowering effect of that green. The darker blue (chair pads and l/r chairs) was o.k. but wasn't used enough to do the job. The orange accents were too much of a "pow" for me.

The water feature was o.k - nice tile. Why not use/highlight some of the tile's other shades to balance the tropical green? BTW, why did she reintroduce the blond wood in the water feature after refinishing the floors? Personally, would have preferred darker wood.

The rooms lacked flow, to me - probably b/c she closed them off. Another small issue: why not repeat the d/r valance on the large l/r window? Or vice versa? (In fact, plain might have been preferable.) Out of budget? Perhaps the limited **$ could have been used more effectively -

All of the above, JMHO. Happy to see Meg return and another design program instead of HH, at least.

Watching her show right now. 5/12. What is she on? She is super hyper and super giggly tonight. The glass on the coffee table is so thin. Couldn't she splurge on at least 1/2", better 3/4" glass top?
