I have admired the work Bronson Pinchot has been doing for some time. He has a "preservationists" approach to renovation. This is not a level of renovation that leaves you with a traditionally usable space, but rather recreates an idea of "what if..". What if the architecture had been left in its original state, with no modernization, and no regular maintenance.

Some argument could be made that architecture is not static sculpture and the changes and updates are an important part of a buildings history.But Pinchot is supremely passionate about a specific period of American architecture. His career has afforded him the ability to indulge his love of 19th century neoclassicism, creating set pieces which become works of art.

Of course it is not truly preservation in the true sense, because they are changing and improving,instead the strict use of period correct materials left in their distressed state creates a highly romanticised pastiche. It like an architectural version of Miss Haversham's wedding cake, seen through the eyes of a Greek Revival enthusiast.

Not for everyone, but definitely for me!

I had to make my DVR recordings of this show at the 2:00 a.m. slot as I was doing another recording for the earlier showing so haven't watched them yet. The show sounds very intriguing!

Some people may find him a bit too wacky, because he really gets excited when he finds cool salvage pieces, or gets an idea, but I find his enthusiasm a much needed change for HGTV. I'm really tired of whining real estate buyers and staged arguments (but of course this is a program from another station).I really like it, it shows a person with a genuine passion for architecture and design, who happens to know quite a lot about the subjects that interest him.
Like I posted above, his style and his concepts will not be for everyone, but it is design related, and it is different from anything else on HGTV, so I think it is worth checking it out, at least once.

I LOVED the 2 episodes seen recently! I would move in in a heartbeat!

I was able to watch one of the episodes and am hooked! The show is actually funny without being a forced funny. I haven't seen Bronson Pinchot in years and didn't even know he preserved/renovated old houses.

Sounds very interesting. When is it on? I've never heard of it.

Soosie, I'm not sure when it comes on again. It is not advertised so you should probably just look through your listings for the next week or so and see if you can find it.

Yes, it is on another network, DIY, which is part of the Scripps family that includes HGTV.

For those yearning for more design and decorating shows, DIY is the place to go. HGTV is --ahem --more oriented to real estate programming. Between the two networks, I think there's plenty of house and home programming to satisfy all but the most picky and cranky viewers.

Really like this show. Watch it every week. Way to go Bronson and Mikey! You two are s funny.
A side note: I bought Perfect Strangers Dvds for the family this past Christmas. Everyone loves watching them!

I can see that the DIY network is showing the shows but since I don't have that channel, I can't watch. I haven't seen it again on the HGTV channel so hopefully they will starting showing it at some point.
