Subject says it all. Each week, we're subjected to complaints about there being too much House Hunters or complaints about one show or another, or of one host replacing another.

HGTV is not the only game in town. Do you find it too difficult to change stations or engage in some other activity? That's the best way to make a change. Why not stop tuning into shows you don't like.

Having a bad day Santa_Fe? I've been known to complain about too many episodes of House Hunters and it's not because I'm sitting there watching them. It's because I decide to see what's on HGTV at night in hopes for something interesting to watch on the network only to find too many episodes of House Hunters and not enough of anything else. So yes, people like me have moved on and don't watch HGTV much anymore. But that doesn't mean I don't hope for better shows from a network I used to watch much more frequently in previous years.

But I will give HGTV credit, I personally think there's been a little improvement in their show lineup these days. More design related and less real estate. We just don't need to have House Hunters on EVERY night!! I wouldn't want any show on EVERY night. That's quickest way to burn viewers out -- thus causing the complaints. But I do realize we are complaining to deaf ears at HGTV.

Wiley and Santa Fe, I have been going to the Chat Line for HGTV. You can go there and let the ladies know how you feel and they pass the word along to the programming department. I believe that is the quickest way to get your comments across to the network. They are very nice to deal with.

The Chat Line is available Mon-Fri from about 9:30am til 5:00pm ET

You reach the Chat Line by going to "Contact Us" and clicking on that. Contact Us is located at the very bottom of this page..on the right-hand side.

As far as the programs are concerned, if I don't like a show, I ignore it. Thank heavens for Hallmark and sometimes DIY.

Yes, I do complain especially regarding Property Brothers, I don't see it, only sometimes on Sat mornings. when they come up either before a program that I am interested or not, usually, do other things in the house, waiting for this program to finish, but many times catch a lot of this show. which to me is one of the worse shows that HGTV has.
So, I guess this could be your answer, Perhaps, I need to illustrate what I find wrong with this program not complaints, but perhaps point out what is wrong, Perhaps others that see this program will eventually see what I see.

That's why I only watch HGTV maybe for an 1/2 hour 2-3 nights a week. Which is a lot less than I used too.
I can remember when I watched it 3 hours a day everyday.

By the way, they must have terminated that Chat line, I went there but they only have the comments place. no chat.

I watch very little HGTV because there are so few actual design shows on, which is my main interest. HH and HHI are vaguely interesting but only the first time around - not the endless repeats.
Yes, I'm a complainer - I hate that HGTV has taken a channel that I used to love and dumbed it down so far that I seriously expect Bubba Jones to be giving tips on how to decorate your scrap yard any day - or maybe the best kind of sprung sofa to put on the front porch with a coffee table made out of the tires from the junker car parked on the weedy yard. Maybe something in browns and grays to go with the pack of hunting dogs sprawled out there.
Now - all is not lost - I do find dishing with y'all in here (and y'all know who you are) about the tackyness of Donna and Dina, and the latest design calamity of _______ to be great fun entertainment so naturally had to watch those shows to see what was going on. DS is coming up tomorrow night and I am looking forward to it AND all the comments I hope are generated on this MB.
And, I will keep complaining and poking fun at these shows until HGTV brings back intelligent design and quits catering to the 5 second attention span people who are entralled with the wannabe celebs.

Rker, once in a while I have a problem getting through the Chat Line, but usually it works.

I have complaints with some shows, but I am more comfortable airing them on the Chat Line or an email and I have done a lot of that. I don't like to put myself out there, but I like to see what others are saying.

As to Design Star - I get the HGTV magazine and one of the contestants says he thinks he will win because he thinks the women of America will watch him cause he "looks sexy in a tool belt". I'm hoping he goes home first.

I didn't phrase my OP quite correctly. I wonder, really, why people continue to watch shows that they seem to hate. Doesn't matter, though.

TV in general has gotten too gimicky. Reality shows ad nauseum featuring people too stupid to realize that they're making fools of themselves, Hollywood gossip seeping into newscasts (this irritates me a lot), programs turning into game shows, lack of subtlety in off-color humor, etc.

HGTV was a nice respite from the trash once upon a time. Wish we could roll the programming back about 7 years.

This board, though, has remained a nice place to mouth off through the years.

Well, time to put in my teeth and pop a Lipitor.

Of course you're absolutely correct on this constant obsession "everyone" (who is it, nobody I know for sure) has to know every stinky (literally) detail of these 5-minute flash in the pan celebs is crazy.
Back in the "good old days" Walter or Chet or David would come on for their 30 or 60 minutes and tell us what happened in the world that day and it was good until the next night. The necessity of 24/7 hour "news" or "entertainment" to justify their existence has led to brainless robotic t.v. viewing pushing the envelope closer and closer to the garbage heap.

I keep waiting for the "reality TV" fad (on HGTV and elsewhere) to pass, but I'm afraid I'll be waiting a very lonnnggg time. I'm still waiting for tight, unflattering, cheap-looking Sex in the City-inspired clothes to go out of style, and rap music has been with us since the 80s. At least mullets and sleeveless sweaters with turtlenecks have left the building...

Doesn't anyone else enjoy some of the real estate shows in part because we can see some of the staging or homeowner decorating to get ideas?

Doodles, I'm glad it wasn't beer or wine. I couldn't live with being responsible for your wasting either of those two (there're plenty of free refills of iced tea in Texas).

You need to go to the DS message board, is really a hoot. I don't even see the program the message board is amazing, accurate and entertaining, HGTV should consider doing a comedy designer program with many of the posters. LOL

I finally figured out that watching Love It or List It is like hitting yourself on the head with a hammer.....it feels so good when you stop!

I guess the phrase that applies here is "you don't throw out the baby with the bathwater." HGTV has been a part of my basic cable package for years, and fans of the channel have simply voiced their concerns as the show offerings declined.

If you love design, you'll probably check in from time to time to see if anything has changed. What some read as complaints, others view as feedback.

Ooooh...haven't been on the boards since last fall, after a year of taking students on different show tours. Missed the fun...hope you all are well.
Settled in to a comfy evening of catching up with my forwarded magazines, and there, on the very p. 25 of HGTV mag was STANLEY's jewel of a comment....there's clearly a character arc being developed here...
I could only think of the Duchess of Windsor...or Coco Chanel? Saying that a woman only needed a tan and pearls. I guess in Stanley's case it's a strategically-placed tool belt--and, maybe, crocs?
