What a fun show! I loved watching the Imagineers at work. In fact, I kind of wish they'd have shown more of the creative process... but that's just probably because being an Imagineer would be my dream job.
I loved the train, and the teapot house was so cute!
Honestly, my first reaction to the promo's for the show was "are you serious?". Although I appreciate the creativity, imagination and skill involved, I cannot believe a family would convert their outdoor living space to a project that the children will outgrow so very quickly.
Granted, I have not watched the episode advertised, just the promotional clips. Maybe I need to watch an episode to see if the long term use for the space is addressed.
Well, it is an "Over the Top" concept- but I think that is kind of what HGTV is going for right now. (HGTV'd is another example of that.)
The family in the premier episode had two children, a four year old and a baby. The yard was designed around what the family loves most about Disney World, an it appears that they had in mind what the children could grow into.
I could see this yard being appropriate for them for several years to come. Plus- they shared the space with their Grandmother, who lived next door- and although they didn't say anything about any cousins, I would imagine that, as a grandmother, she could get good use out of having a yard like that for many, many years.
Did anyone see the Safari episode? A family that included 6 kids adopted from Africa got a Disney yard inspired by the animal kingdom exhibit.
It was very appropriate for the family- and the kids were so cute enjoying their new yard.
Another great, over the top landscaping makeover. I can't say I saw anything I'd duplicate in my own yard, but then again, my yard wouldn't be big enough anyway.
What a great show! I also thought this would be a little silly - but that pool they built (that's the only episode we caught) was spectacular! The Disney flourishes are really only meant for the kids, and their excitement speaks for itself... Fun!
I also think this is a stupid concept. The kids will outgrow it in just a few years. Besides, aren't children supposed to use THEIR imaginations when they play? How will they even develop creativity if everything is given to them fully accomplished??
After seeing the promos I had to watch this to see for myself -- although I admit I didn't make it through an entire program. I think it's tacky and vulgar and just one big product placement for Disney. What's happened to us that we need a theme park to put their junk in our yards instead of using our own imaginations? And what ever happened to good taste...?
Tish2 I couldn't agree with you more. Are theme parks in our back yards replacing swing sets and sand boxes! All I can think about when I watch this show is who is going to pay for the removal of all this stuff once the kids get older, lose interest, or you need to sell the house. In one episode they had to use a large crane to bring some sort of a building into the backyard. I can't imagine what it would cost to hire a crane to remove the large "Disneyland Exhibit" from your yard. Oh well, I guess I'm thinking too practical.
I fully agree with several, this show isnt what i want to see on HGTV. They need to can it, along with helping Soffie Allop with her posture, lip gloss and swagger. Would be great also if the cancel Selling New York, Holmes and Sarahs over the top show featuring Tommy.
I LOVE this concept! Being BIG DISNEY fans ourselves we had priced out with the local pool builders what a mickey head pool would cost and then they had a show that put one in! My issue is how they are selecting families, mine is a DISNEY friendly one and our yard is a blank slate. I'm a teacher and we go to Disneyland once a year if not more, even our wedding would have been at the park if it wasn't so expensive, but we made the theme work for us here is AZ with mickey tuxedo vest/ties, attenna ball favors, and our honeymoon was spent there which included our very first trip together was spent there too. We try to buy disney items for the home and my classroom but they stopped making several furniture pieces etc. which is very disappointing---now I search for "hidden mickeys" in other pieces.
