Barry and Brandi are spinning off to another show called "Hidden Potential Home". Here's the job posting for an Architect to share the job load of shows with Paige: http://archinect.com/jobs/description.php?id=78648_0_30_0_C217.

There will also be a new Real Estate person to replace Brandi.

Can't believe they are keeping this stupid show on the air!

See? HGTV really listened to us, didn't they! 99.9% of posters on here either hate or intensely dislike the show, so of course after cramming it down our throats they're going to give us a whole new one to "love". BAH!

I can't believe that they, meaning HGTV, would also spin off HP into another senseless show much less putting Barry in it. Well, that is another show that I will not be watching.

"Hidden Potential HOME" is where they show the HO redesigns of their existing home (instead of shopping for a new home).

In other words, they've just dropped the phony home search part.

And they need TWO versions of Hidden Potential because?????

I just read the job posting...now I'm steamed! Mad

It says applicants must be in their late 20's to early 30's. What's up with that? I guess as far as HGTV is concerned, you're washed up as soon as you hit 40! I'd rather see an older person with some experience, class, and decorum than some young no-talent goofball any day of the week.

Michael Payne, Lynette Jennings, Kitty Bartholomew, Carol Duvall...you guys are WASHED UP! I know there are more, but this old brain doesn't remember things so well anymore. Confused

Better get my cane and hobble over to my rockin' chair. My rheumatiz' is acting up...

Edited to fix bad formatting. Did it work?

They are very cheap to produce. Wink

HGTV doesn't even have to spend $2k on the house!

They want an architect and I think that Vern is an architect, but he is probably too old for the job. It seems like someone in their early 20's wouldn't have enough experience.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but are Barry and Brandi a couple? There was a promo that used to run where they throw themselves back onto a sofa and they always looked very cozy to me. And now, with the fact that together, they're morphing into yet another Hidden Potential show, makes me wonder.

Just curious.

I seriously doubt it. According to the bios, she lives in Chicago and he lives in Manhattan. Also there was just a show on the other day where, during the host banter, Barry asked her does she get along with her mother-in-law.

Talk about AGE DISCRIMINATION! Is HGTV being run by Paris Hilton now or are there actually other people who are just as stupid and shallow as she is? Call me crazy, but I would rather watch a program with someone who is competant and talented, rather than just an imbecile who happens to be 28.

I understand that these shows have to be entertaining as well as informative, but this really is just assinine. Is it even legal to pull this kind of discrimination when hiring? I would hope not.

It's not as if this is a drama on the CW and they are trying to cast Chace Crawford's "cool" older brother. There's no justification (legally) for this.

Go ahead HGTV, get some more talentless hacks like John Giddings from DTS Atlanta and see how long you have viewers.

I must be very naive because I thought that maybe they would actually make a version where some of the design changes were implemented. LOL....I know....that's ridiculous. Why would you do that? Who wants there to be a point to all of this show's little computerized fantasy rooms?

I'll pass.

Ya know, I'm making an assumption that's what it is because sometimes, at the beginning of a HP show, Brandie will say, 'Welcome to Hidden Potential Home where we will show you redesigns of a homeowner's existing home...'

Of course they could be naming it the same thing but coming up with a whole new concept. I wish they would do something like you're suggesting. I've been wanting something like that also.

Just read the job posting too. This makes me crazy. I guess HGTV is going to be HG-MTV from now on; it's certainly looking that way.

Probably they want us to upgrade to Fine Living, which I would love to do but I won't pay extra for it since I can't trust the Scripps people who own all these networks. They just might change Fine Living into Dumpster Diving after I sign up.

One good thing to come out of this is that I have found there are plenty of good shows on other networks. I can live without HGTV.

Speaking for someone who is over 40, I highly resent that the population that spends the most money is left out. It is the 20s and 30s groups that are having foreclosures and public assitance more than the older age population.

That being said...I don't knock people on this board, just shows and ideas. But let me say, Barry is probably the LEAST talented and LEAST interesting host...geesh. He was terrible on Trading Spaces (not that that says much), and HP is a totally annoying show.

In another similar thread, we joked that they were really both the same person. Big Grin

Put Barry in drag, and who would he look like?

People have actually asked Paige Rien if she is Barry Wood. She has answered that question on her blog (she also answers the question are they related: 'no').

Here's the Q/A from her blog:

Are you Barry Wood?
I am asked this less often, but it's newly and uniquely disturbing each time. We are not the same person. I did not used to be Barry Wood - unfortunately the show we did together, in which I was 8 months pregnant, in Denver, did nothing to dispel this rumor...

Here's a link to her blog. The Q/A's are on the right: http://paigerien.blogspot.com/2008/08/yeah-baby-post-partum-design.html

This is funny that this has come up about these two looking alike....because I've been thinking the same thing about Lise Simms and Daniel Kucan from Desperate Spaces. They totally look like brother and sister.

Maybe HGTV should just hire Donny and Marie to host their next show. Designed to Sell: Salt Lake City or House Hunters - Branson??

The whole premise for this show is ridiculous! Why are they trying to force us to watch it? This show is on every night and has few supporters. HGTV--get the message--we do not like the present format for this show, nor would we like any type of format for this show. Just forget it!

Ok Katienj I know you just said "we do not like the present format for this show, nor would we like any type of format for this show" but just curious... would you like it any better if they started following the construction process of the selected house? I sent an email to Paige Rien about this and she said they will soon start doing this. (See topic posting entitled "Good News Regarding the Show Hidden Potential".)

Since you started down that road.. if you put Lauren Lake in drag, who would she look like?

Little Richard.
My husband pointed that out.

Lauren would look nothing like that.

It's ridiculous.

They don't have the same facial structure or features.
