I am glad for this new promotion avenue of the field of garden design but greatly disappointed to discover Chris is not being totally honest with his design ability & experience. There are other postings that state he had a team of real designers to create all the landscape looks that will be presented. It is a shame if he is not being forthright about his contributions to each home & just on the road to be a 'reality tv star'.
In further readings, he has not studied or been through any accredited school programs so I have to wonder how he can honestly promote himself as an expert next to true HGTV landscape professionals such as Jamie Durie and John Gidding? These experts have proven their abilities not only on the network but with years of experience and demonstrated project contributions.
I actually am bothered when people say that they are landscape architects +/or landscape designers and aren't.
Not sure about tuning in for his promised tips and renovation reveals.

This is nothing new for HGTV - there are many HGTV "designers" who aren't really. In my state, if I touted myself as an "interior designer" when I am, in reality, an interior decorator, I'd get myself into legal trouble. However, HGTV doesn't seem to care one way or the other about the creds of their people.
It is a disappointing notion to discover that there may be created credentials. And, you are right about the legality of using the right terms for the presented position. There is pride and recognized talent in being both a 'decorator' & a 'designer'. Why fabricate on tv or in our fields? Maybe he has not done much since his other tv role?
I had read another promo article on this host where he was called a landscape architect. That is truly a step too far in my opinion and seems to be another dis-honest feature of who he is or wants to be.
I watched Income Property last evening and that expert, Scott, easily reveals that he relies on a team & a designer/decorator for many interior decisions & selections. He does not seemed conceited or ego driven that everything is his creation. This is a new one, so time will tell with this new show.

IMO, any professional in this field understands they need a "team" and is not shy about spreading the joy when the client is delighted with the finished product.
to doobles64 comment- in your interior world and my garden business, we all rely on other professionals to complete the project and fully share ideas & the results.
Today at a networking event we discussed this topic and the new host as an example. Seems no one believes he is the real deal. Actor - acting with no credentials was the summation. We even downloaded an interview and he seemed to struggle with talking points. We concluded the one with exciting inspiration and takeaways is Jamie Durie and to tune in for his transformations.
Hope this program at least demonstrates good design & good results while offering promotion for the designer field. Some of the other programs have that driving energy like Candice Olsen, Emily Henderson and big team supportive efforts seen with Genevieve Gorder. Anything that can motivate the call for qualified professionals helps us all to thrive and grow.
I have set my DVR to record this show and the rest of the Saturday night episodes. I like to watch the shows at my leisure and pause them if I want a better look at something.
Regarding this show, I will watch and see. Chris Lambton's Father has been in the landscape business for 20 years and now Chris and his brother, Eric run the company. I also did not see anything about formal landscape training for Chris.
I just hope this show has some budget-wise ideas for the yard and is not all about huge water features, gazebos, decks, etc.
UPDATE: I watched this show and I liked it. Chris put together an amazing back yard. He made a deck, a patio and a fireplace but it did not seem over-the-top to me. He also included a play yard for the owner's little boy.
Chris said that he had worked in his Father's landscape business and he gave info about how and why he was doing things. This is just my opinion. MaryleeThis message has been edited. Last edited by: mriley,

I just watched the show. I thought the design was appropriate for the home style and was a good use of space to meet all the family needs that were presented.
Though Chris seemed unsure of himself at various times during explanations. In time, he should improve his ability to emphasize the key points of his plan & not force his enthusiasm. Sometimes he did not come across as the least bit genuine or fully connected to the process. And Peyton seems to need more to do!
Checked this out. Liked the two-tier deck and f/p. One thing, however - thought they detracted from their focal point (the f/p) by placing that pergola around it.
Nice play area and zones. Too bad the homeowners didn't have access to the yard from that side bedroom.
I must say after reviewing a few episodes - He is a sham: 'Something false or empty that is purported to be genuine'. Though he makes an effort, there is no true grasp of the design process or purpose of the 'hows' and 'whys' of the presented design & property needs. It is very difficult to ignore this pantomime.
I think that everyone knows that California is the place to have great outside patios, especially in the south. Now, for me in florida, I don't know what I would do with sofas, chairs pillows etc. that these many patios seem to have, The first rain or hurricane, everything needs to go inside.

Will someone clarify for me the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator? I'm guessing that the former may include structural changes to a home but I really don't know.
Thanks.
