OMG, last night on HH a couple saw three million dollar plus houses in Phoenix.... the third one was a to die for mid century modern.... It was Frank Lloyd Wright gorgeous!! They walked into two magnificent bathrooms and said in both, "This is a gut job" I was so glad when they picked the bigger ugly house... phew...
Oh man I missed that one! Oh YES I literally wince when I see a gorgeous vintage bathroom or kitchen and the not-so-bright couple walk in and say "this has to be torn down its a complete GUT JOB" ugh! how DUMB can you be?? Don't they know that vintage stuff is gold on eBay?? The light fixtures, all the accoutrements, all those are in high demand now. Parts and fixtures from vintage era 50s/60s are worth their weight in gold. And to replace it all with garbage everyone has in every house in America?? Speaking of Phoenix- even the 78k dumps in South Phoenix have the ubiquitous granite counter-tops in them now. Gah, just keep the ORIGINAL stuff. It's made better, it looks better, and its GREENer. Why waste? Why smash everything to replace it with something else, something else that will go out of style in a couple years?
Wallpaper is coming back. Closed kitchens are coming back. Canned/recessed lighting is passe (not to mention ugly and an energy hog).
