When the homeowners describe their rooms, it reminds me why real estate agents insist that homeowners not be present during a showing. Inevitably they overestimate the price of everything. $20K on a heated towel nook does not convey luxury or value to me.

OK, watched this tonight - it's like the trainwreck that Donna's show was, just in a completely different way. I think the name of this show should be "If You've Got It, Flaunt It".
Normally I say if you've got the money to spend you have the right to spend it however you want. I still feel that way - however, this show is so beyond over the top ostenstatiousness (is that even a word?) that I just sat there with my mouth open. Do these self-indulgent people realize how many families could eat well for the rest of their lives on the amount they spend in one room to satisfy their need for greed? Yes, people should be able to use their money legally as they please, but how can they even justify that kind of extravagance?
What does everyone else think of this show?

I think the major turnoff a lot of people have with the shows is what they really have most in common with our friend Donna -

Tacky! As they say - money can't buy taste. Just because something costs a lot of money does not make it attractive or a good value. By good value I do not mean cheap - but quality workmanship in a timeless design.

Many of the things I saw last night were far better than anything La Donna would turn out in her wildest dreams - didn't like ALL of it, but that's not surprising. My complaint was that it's just TOO MUCH. Nobody "needs" all that stuff - reminds me of the parable of the rich man who was patting himself on the back because of his wealth and was going to tear down his barns and build new ones - and was told he was going to die that night, and what would all that wealth profit him in the long run.
I like nice things too - but can't imagine spending that kind of money just for my own self satifaction.

While I would never own one of those McMansions even if I could afford it in my wildest dreams, I do like viewing it to see what the super rich live in.

What I am more puzzled about is why Carter Oosterhouse is the host of this show. I thought Carter was more "green" and into re-using and repurposing items. This show is like a total opposite of what I thought he believed in - mass excess of building material, mass energy usage, etc., etc.

Not sure our economy has recovered enough for this show NOT TO BE in poor taste.

i think this show is disgraceful hgtv,carter oosterhouse and the people who,s rooms they are showing should be ashamed of themselves. what a terrible waste of money when so many poor sick people could benifit from just a little part of the money it cost for these rooms shame on you all.

I've seen promos for this show.

Well he can't dance thats for sure- He'll never make it to DWTS.

I applaud his effort and lack of inhibition.

I don't dance any better than Ellen and I wouldn't have the guts to dance on TV.

I agree. In this economy, you'd think the producers would come up with something the "average viewer" can relate to - Not this excess.

And most of today must have been "million $ day". What I wouldn't give for an episode of HH. Some of those people I can identify with anyway.

LOL at the idea of Carter being on DWTS! I was actually surprised to see how bad he danced because he is such a super looking guy.

Carter married actress Amy Smart(Shameless) a yr or two back.

Last month I saw an ad for this show. The next ad was about the children going hungry in the US. I thought right then, HGTV doesn't get it. I will never watch this show.

I've had the opportunity of seeing homes like the ones Carter has shown. There are times I watch to see if my friends' homes make it on the show. But...I think they are private individuals and won't share their homes.

There are rooms that the families feel comfortable.....and realize their guests do, too.

There are people who "expect" others to "HAVE" these homes with "THESE" rooms.

And....when they DO have these homes; then, they make comments that they shouldn't. What I know.....there are people who have been blessed and DO bless others. Their hearts are even bigger than their million dollar rooms shown.

I have friends who have homes that .... well need a makeover.... and they, too, have hearts that are million dollar hearts.

Guess WHO is living in the home that really matters.

Not to be mean,really, I have no idea what this post was about or ment???? Did I miss something, it made no sence. I do however, agree with all the other people that in this economy, that in our case has still not rebounded in any way, there just isn't a need to shove it in our faces. Also agree with the post questioning Carter hosting it, again he is usually so down to earth and green, it just doesn't fit for me. Also, he is such a hunk and I love a man who can build and fix things, but the commercial where he is dancing is painfull. Yet nice to know he actually has an inperfection.

I refuse to watch any show that's starts with "million dollar". I am sick of seeing self centered spoiled rich people shoving what they have down my throat! Shame on HGTV for showing this kind of show. I don't begrudge anyone for having money or nice things,I just think at this time, this show is TACKEY!

Yes, you obviously missed the episode to which I was referring. It was either the first or second episode that aired. The homeowner lamented ad nauseum about the imported tiles used to make his $20K heated towel nook. They looked like the $2/ square ft. tiles you could purchase from a big box retailer.
