Anyone enjoying the new season of AAH? Loved the waking baby challenge last night... Do you agree with who got sent home each week?
I enjoy any shows with Scott and Mike -- two such knowledgeable contractors!! That was a tough challenge trying to be quiet. How can you make power tools quiet?? As a homeowner and a mother, I'd hope my workman would try to be quiet but if I wanted the work done and they had to use power tools, I can't really complain if the noise wakes my sleeping child.
I always enjoy watching All American Handyman. I like that Scott and Mike point out what is being done wrong and how to correct it. The contestants work hard on their projects and there is no drama even when things are not going according to plan. I thought the sleeping baby segment was a neat idea...not something you see every day. It surprised me that no one read the directions when they were working on the swing set project. I always read the directions because I want to know where I am going before I start a project. As to the decision of who gets sent home...I trust Scott and Mike's judgment. I think they are fair in their decisions. From watching earlier seasons, I know they talk over their reasoning before they make a final decision. This message has been edited. I just love watching Mike and Scott on All American Handyman. I would want Mike to do many of my home projects, and I would want Scott around to look at his dimples and do the rest of my home projects. They're a great team. And the show is fun to watch. The sleeping baby thing was a great change of pace and fun to watch. This is one of those shows where both hubby and I love to watch together. But I don't care what Scott is doing, I'll watch him do it any day of the week. Haha!
You are a very trusting soul. Though Scott and Mike may be good general contractors they are showmen also. When there is a choice (no one doing such a horrible job that there is no question) they will keep on the show those that they think are most interesting probably with a lot of guidance from the producer. That is just the way reality TV works. I was glad they sent home the person they did this week (sorry but I don't know names). At the beginning he said he would be the leader no matter who they picked as leader. (a little arrogant, maybe) Then when talking to Scott and Mike he implied that they forced him to be leader. I like this show. It is one that I actually turn on as opposed to watching HGTV only when there is nothing else on.
I'm liking it so far. Do wish they would make the one woman put some dang clothes on though - halter tops, cleavage & bare backs are ridiculous. Are you serious or just trolling for dates?? Can just imagine where saw dust ends up.

I think there is plenty of drama on this show for the very thing you just pointed out. I didn't care for the sleeping baby challenge. Realistic that people would like the contractors to be quiet, but really, who would fire contractors that they FINALLY got to show up just because they woke the baby? The women and that short guy (Scott, I think) seem to be the weakest links (mind you, I've only seen 2 shows this season). Rodney (I think that's his name) is a mess. Thinks he's all that. But he's a likeable mess. I was glad when the two women working together finally clicked and were not the worst team. I was startled when Mike declared a work bench sturdy and then Scott looked at him in disbelief and then easily damaged it with a kick. Perhaps Mike grades on a curve.
I loved that scene. Surprised Mike allowed it to be shown. My respect for Scott jumped right then.

It makes you sort of wonder what goes on behind the scenes. Surely these guys talk about the contestants. So there is probably a little competition between them, too. So for instance, Mike's been saying one guy was so good and Scott doesn't agree and so he's quick to point out how the guy isn't that great.
Yes, I have been watching it. Especially to see Scott! He is definitely eye candy! But he knows his stuff! I can't believe the way the women dress. It's not professional. Actually, I don't care for any of them to be honest. Not sure who I think will win. They all have a lot to learn!
Watched it last night and felt Sonne definitely did the best job on her project. Starting to like the gals. They seemed more professional last night. As to who will win? It's anyone's guess. I think Rodney should have left. He doesn't seem to finish his projects or makes sure they are stable.

I think Rodney is walking on extremely thin ice and suspect he'll be next to go. He's so full of himself, isn't he?
I think they keep Rodney around for comic relief. I have definitely noticed that they are letting people 'dig their own holes' by not taking the advice given and improving, but keep making the same mistakes.

He certainly does provide comic relief. He seems resilient to constructive criticism because he's happy with what he produces and thinks he's pretty darned terrific! I think they see more creativity in him, and, as you say, they're giving him plenty of rope.

Well, the two people who'd been bringing so much drama and comedy to the show are gone. I'm glad Sonne is still around. You can certainly learn a lot from this show, plus study human dynamics at the same time.
The cream has definitely risen to the top. Finally we'll have some real competition!

Got any predictions? Maybe now is when we start seeing that people who have the most experience might not be detail-oriented enough.
It's a toss up! Will be interesting though!
Absolutely one of my favorite shows right now. Can't wait for tonight's finale. But it does scare me. I'm thinking about hiring a handy man to do some minor repairs around the house, but after watching these professionals work scares me. How do you find a good handy man?
Anitra Mecadon is freakin' hot!
NOT A FAN OF MIKE I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH THE OUTCOME! THE WINNER WAS WEAKER THAN 2 OF HER CO CONTESTANTS JUST LIKE IN THE SEMIFINALS 2 MEN WERE SENT HOME BECAUSE THE DID NOT FINISH THEIR TV ROOM SUNNY DID NOT FINISH HER KITCHEN SO ??? NOT A "LEVEL" PLAYING FIELD MIKE!
IT SCARES ME TO THINK THAT THESE CONTESTANTS WERE OUT THERE IN BUSINESS AS HANDY MEN I WOULD NOT HAVE HIRED ANY OF THEM!
AGREED LOL | ||||
These were well qualified handyman IMHO. They were given artifical timelines. I think they showed themselves able to do most of the work and able to work with the homeowners.

Hello, I appreciate you guys watching the show. It was a blast. Please check out some of my finished projects that did not take 1hour and 15 seconds. Thanks again for watching. It was a super experience! www.rodneyboyden.com

Well, at least i am a likable mess! LOL!! here is some of my real work. Thanks so much for watching. It was a blast!!! www.rodneyboyden.com

I would agree that some folks on the show were weak in their skills but there were at least 5 guys that were really good! I must say that adding the time adds so much pressure to the moment. Try it sometimes. It is wild but really fun! Scott was the best Builder and Framer, Mike is good for fix its and Im the best for all interior finish work.
We appreciate your posts but I don't understand some of them. Are you answering someone>
Yes. Just got on a learning how to use. I guess I need to leave the quite in . :-)

I must say that it did seem as though i was a little tooo confident. The show was a lot of fun and the pressure was crazy!!! Fun though!!! I am not full of myself rather i just love what I do. Really hate that i looked like that but it is waht it is. Check out my real work when I have just a little more that 15 seconds to build something! Everything you will see on my site, i built myself. Again, thanks for watching! www.rodneyboyden.com

I didn't like when that Rodney guy got sent home!!! LOL!!! www.rodneyboyden.com

Thats not exactly how you came off..... mea culpa My perception. You may be wonderful but I felt condescension when you worked with females! That could put off a female client!
I did forget to say your work seemed good!
Yes I can imagine that it did look that way but i must say this. Nothing in the world makes me happier that a person man or women who know how to do this kind of work WELL. As a musician and a singer I always am impressed with women pianist also because there are more men that do it on a regular. Carpentry and women is even more interesting because of the skill set needed. Julia is a great person and we talk on the phone a lot since the show because she understood the lack of time involved and she really was out of her comfort zone on that build. I only reacted that way because of time, nothing else. I Have not seen anything that Julia has ever built but I am sure given time, she could do a lot and she has a great attitude to go with it. NOW with THAT said, Carol is the exact opposite. I know that she has some skills but she does not have the imagination and quick thought need to accomplish things on this show. Because she works at (........)it does not mean that you r a handy person it just means you work around handy persons things. Yes she has some skills but her personality is a little hard to take. Out side of work she is pretty kool but on a job site, i would never work with her. She is probably good on her real job but it would only take you 1day to see what I mean. Nice person off the job though. It is quit unfortunate that I looked like I did not know what I was doing on the show. Never would imagine that would or could happen but it did. The only reason why it does not bother me is because i do have a strong skill set in trim, design, construction and all things interior. As you have probably seen on my website (www.rodneyboyden.com) people hire me after the drywall goes up and then I do my thing. That last episode was what I do every single day and I LOVE it!!! Putting a clock on us was really fun though, it made me lose weight if nothing else. LOL!!!! I hope you are feeling my true heart on the subject of women and this show. Much respect. That last episode was a prime example of the fact that i had respect for Sonne and she had it for me. Because on the show, I never got to do what I do up until; that point, she took a gamble and WON!!! She has gusto along with a growing skill set. see more of my thoughts on (Talk to Rodney Boyden from AAH in the subject line.
You mean the work on the show or on my website? Thanks i was just wondering witch you were speaking of. :-)
Julia seemed like a nice person but appeared maddening to work with - either she received an incredibly bad edit or was slower than watching paint dry. We try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt on these programs. Tptb have many hours of footage and can edit it however they wish. Have a good weekend, Rodney!
Now you said it there!!! Julia is not just slow working but she is that type of person that just reacts slowly and moves slowly and just is relaxed in herself which is great. But it is not good under time!! AT ALL!!! She is a wonderful person with a great family. They live on the river in Seattle! They had many hours of footage for sure and that is the art of editing! I am just glad to be on the show to be EDITED!!!~ :-)
Just wondering, r you male or female/ that will put a face on your perspective a little better for me.
BOTH- the website is good-
Thanks sooo much!! That means a lot.

For the last 12 years I have been experiencing the art of building and constructing some very nice things throughout the country from Texas to New York. It is amazing how one a situation that was meant to be something fun can turn on you. I had a conversation this past week with 2 people and I feel that this is a good idea of what America got from my show run on All American Handyman. They said these words to me in short. You are very creative but and I would have you design everything and have somebody else build it" WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was like a knife in the side!!!! For years I have prides myself in the construction of things that people live in like room additions, sit on like chairs and benches and walk on like decks along with many other things and one set of shows can throw all of that in the trash as though you don't know anything. It is sad but true that apparently as you have said, I looked like I was a mess!!!! So sad. I would only hope that this opinion does not rest in the mind of the masses. I will not give any opinions on the footage of the show because it was what I considered fun while I was doing it but it has seemingly set me up to be disrespected in the minds of many as having NO construction ability AT ALL. Nothing I have ever built has ever fallen apart or broken and I have a good reputation to this fact but that is not what American saw. All I can say is UNFORTUNATE FOR ME!! Thanks!!

My thoughts exactly. But how do you know if the pro you're hiring is good or not? They might excell at designing a deck, but can't put in windows. How do you know until it's too late?
Almost all of them failed at putting in a window. It wasn't timeline, it was lack of knowledge. Many times they didn't read the instructions they were given.
Sunny might not have completed her room, but she used her tools correctly, and read instructions. To me, her weakness was choosing Rodney, who I think is only a handyman in his own mind. He has no planning skills, no listening skills. Choosing him was like hiring a loose canon and leaving him to his own devices. Recipe for disaster.
