Please bring back Sandra rinomato on property virgins! I don't like the new show. (new host)

I haven't watched the new show but was crushed when I saw the advertisement that said there was a new host. PV was one of my favorite shows but doubt I'll watch it now. Sandra was the best!

There is another thread on this topic. Most everyone was negative... as is norm these days.
I've seen one show and viewed her with an open mind. I think she does a good job. I do think that at times her tone of voice is strident and mocking. But I find this is common among younger TV personalities, including newscasters. But it seems when she is not reading from a script her tone of voice is quite nice.
I hope they view homes in various areas of the country. This message has been edited. Last edited by: metwo,

I think she's doing fine too.
I've never understood people who absolutely hate change and who tend to mock it and find fault.
Sheesh people, change is inevitable.

Agree - she seemed fine. Couldn't understand the vitriol over the change - Sandra moved on.

No vitriol here. I just like Sandra better

Why did Sandra leave? I watched the show because of her. What is she doing now? Whatever it is, I will watch it!

She picked up another show "Buy Herself" that will air on HGTV Canada. IIRC, a copy of the FB note is on the other thread.

I am new at this, but asking about new show of Sandra's...you mention it is on HGTV Canada...does that mean only in Canada it will be viewed and not by viewers in USA? I know PV was shown from Canada but I never heard HGTV referred to as "HGTV Canada". Do you know when it will be airing and date/time? appreciate replies from anyone. thanks.

Welcome newperson. Nice screen name!
The FB posting (other thread, below) mentioned 03-12 for HGTV Canada. We don't receive things here in the U.S. for at least 6 months, if at all, in my experience. If it's a hit and given the audience's familiarity with the hostess, I'd expect HGTV-US to pick it up. Until they make an announcement, however, nothing's certain.

I understand people move on, hopefully to bigger and better things, however, I too watched Property Virgins because of Sandra and after watching one episode of the new host, I won't watch it anymore. Sandra was much more personable and did not belittle her clients. Hopefully HGTV will pick up Sandra's new show for us US viewers.

I agree. Sandra was more down to earth & realistic. I saw the new show once & just didn't enjoy it as much. I hope her new show is a big hit so we will be able to see it soon. I notice a LOT of the better shows are from Canada, I know it's cheaper to produce there so I guess that's the reason.

Completely agree HGTV, please, please bring back Sandra! I've tried to watch the show with the new host and I can't stand it, it's not about change, she just isn't any good. Seems very condecending and just not genuine like Sandra. Big mistake guys, loved the show before, but won't be watching until I see change in the "change"!

Why do people always say "Bring Back so & so", as if it was entirely up to the network to do so. People aren't ALWAYS fired! In this case, Sandra decided to do a new show and it was her choice to move on.
HGTV Canada is an entirely different network from HGTV USA. Sometimes we get their shows after they have been first run in Canada. For ex., we have Sarah's House and Property Virgins. We may get this new show of Sandra's and we may not. Only time will tell.

I've never been a fan of Sandra's style, although she was a good host. I didn't like how she would suggest adding the downpayment to the total amount someone could spend on their first house, I think that is bad advice. I've also read that some didn't like how she would encourage the buyer to bid higher in this market. I didn't like that either, but remember, most of the episodes are shot in Canada, and our real estate market is more competitive at the moment. Overall, Sandra was a decent host and I think she did a good job.
Her new show will likely air on HGTV USA in a year+ or so. Whenever I visit the US & I watch HGTV USA a lot of the shows are actually Canadian. Property Virgins, Sarah's House & 101, Design Inc, For Rent, Divine Design, Buy Me, Colour Confidential, Property Shop, Stagers, Holmes on Homes, Income Property, Unsellables and most embarrassingly Love it or List it, so Sandra's new show will probably end of here too.

Finally, I've managed to see two Property Virgins with the new host. I am not understanding the negative posts. In the two shows I watched, I didn't think anything was lacking. For me, the transition is seamless. Same format, same tone, different host.
Hey, and they didn't get some twig to play host, either!

Although I liked the show and Sandra, I always cringed when she said, "You have been aprroved for 250,000 and have 25,000 for a down payment, let's look at 275,000 properties. I never understood that arithmetic of buying a home. I thought that the philosophy of buying a home was to buy the best that you could afford, and not go to the max in your mortgage, so you would not find yourself in trouble, in case anything happened in your life in years to come. Isn't that one of the reasons that we have so many that are under water in their mortgages?

That, and what seems to be a worrisome trend to making a down payment of less than 20 percent. Financing at the 85 or 90 percent level is not a great idea.

While I miss Sandra on Property Virgins like everybody else, I also like the new host too. She has much the same personality as Sandra did - tough but nice. The only thing I miss with Property Virgins is seeing the house a couple months after the people move there. But that's why I watch House Hunters.

I also did not like that although most stuck with their budget wisely, but frankly pushing the buyers about upping the price was a little unlealistic to me JIMO

I haven't seen the new show, so I don't know, but does this new host, does she adds the down payment to what the people are being qualified for? or does she looks for properties that are within the limits of what the banks may lend.

webenomads, Thank you so much for your info. Good things to know.
I don't want to bump your post, so I hope you don't mind if I add a note. According to Facebook, there is a new show airing tonight at 9:00 and 9:30pm It is called "Pop Shop." I had not seen anything about it before. Thank you.

Hi Marylee! Pop Shop sounds like fun! I hadn't heard anything about it either, but I'm about to set my DVR for it. Thanks for the tip! Here's the description I found on HGTV:
Designers Alexis Hadjopulos and Tom Whitman transform a Los Angeles homeowner's room on a small budget with huge style using their signature tricks for finding fabulous vintage furniture and one-of-a kind items at great prices.

I like Sandra and hope we will get to see her new show at some point. I did catch the new host and thought she was good. Just takes a bit to get used to a change. Give the gal a break!
Thanks all for the heads up on the new show tonite. I'll be watching too.

I'd be open to a new host on Property Virgins, but the simple fact is, Sandra was much better than the new person. The new host is boring and has nothing unique about her (so far). She's just your average TV host. Sandra had personality that actually added to the show and made it more enjoyable.

I agree with the all the PV threads about the host change. I have watched several of the new episodes and end up turning the channel. The new host Eygpt lacks Sandra's sincerity and ability to connect with viewers. With so much talent out there, find a new host. Also while Eygpt is the host someone please dress her! Her wardobe downgrades the profession of real estate.

I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the new host either. Her personality just seems awkward and stilted on the show. I've tried to watch it but just don't bother anymore.

I haven't seen the new episodes of PV but I really wish Sandra the best. I liked her a lot and because she is such a popular person on HGTV,I am sure that it will only be in due time that we see her new show. However, does the new PV episodes show properties Canada still? I loved that for the simple fact that I am considering relocating to the Toronto area and it educated me a lot the different areas and the pricing.

I was sad to see Sandra wasn't on the new season, but I gave Egypt a chance. I didn't know what to expect from her, but find that I like her. I think she has the same straight-forward approach like Sandra. And she is camera friendly.
Everyone has their favorites and feel "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". But I wonder, what is it about the new host that people do not like? Really, what is it about her? This woman was chosen to be the new host. Obviously, someone in production thought she was qualified to do it. And I am sure there were many many others who gave it a shot and weren't chosen.
I miss Sandra, but no one lasts forever.
