no yard, just a hill Sign In/Join

Hi there, I have a hill behind my house that is too steep for me to mow. I am 68 years old and poor health prevents me from doing much work outside. Do you have any ideas on how I can get it landscaped for it to be a back yard?
I have thought of having blocks laid and filling it in with dirt. Thinking that may be too expensive. Your thoughts please? Thanks in advance.

hello

I have a part of our yard that was steep, we built a wall and leveled out the hill to match the grade,of course if you can't do that it will be better for you to get someone like a landscaper or friends in to advise you, hope that helps

Instead of adding soil you could terrace it by removing soil and adding blocks or railroad ties. You would need to hire a landscaper with a box-blade or backhoe, but at least you wouldn't be buying more soil.

If you can't afford to hire landscapers, call around your area to see if there are any volunteer groups that help seniors stay in their homes. You can also contact service groups such as the Boy Scouts. An Eagle Scout has to do a large service project to reach that rank. Lastly, church groups and high schools often organize service projects for teenagers. You might be able to get the cooperative extension in your area to donate some low maintenance plants, but you'll have to call around to find out. Good luck!
