So I was watching DOD the other night when they had their top 25 secrets and they mentioned something about buying remnants and making a rug from them....well anyone here know HOW to do that? Or is the remnants going to have a finished edge where that wont be a problem? I want to get an area rug for my living room but um we are on a VERY tight budget. Thanks!

I hope I'm not too late, I just started today...

I'm thinking of two different things when I read your post. You can purchase leftover pieces of rug that carpet stores/home improvement stores don't want to keep on the roll, because they're too small for a "normal" sized room. I've bought carpet remnants at Lowe's before and just plopped it down easy as you please.

The other thing that I'm thinking is I saw an episode of Decorating Cents where they took samples from a carpet "book" that were all the same pile and texture but all different colors and used duct tape on the back to tape them together (which didn't work too well for them, they kept falling apart). I would try tape that's actually made for carpet, check with the carpet folks (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc..) and they'll help you find the right stuff. The good thing with the carpet samples, the edges are already bound.

Good luck!

can't remember the magazine, but saw a "checkerboard rug" made from remnents that were adhered similar to the way you would lay tiles. Very nice.
