Looking for help, does anyone have any idea's of thing's that can be made for Red Hat's. I have many request's for Red Hat related thing's at our fair's. I can't think of what to make for this, as they didn't give any suggestion's.
Maybe some type of pin, magnet or something else?
Thanks for any idea's you might have.

I belong to a lot of organizations, but not Red Hat. My experience is to work the the members of an organization to come up with something thatthey would like. I know that there are a lot of Red Hat items avaialble commercially, so I imagine they are looking for unique or one of a kind items. For example, my Easten Star sisters aren't usually looking for OES emblems, but rather things that would go with their OES emblems.

If it were me, I would ask the target market (the people requesting products) what they would like - do they want items that display the logo (in this case a red hat with purple trim) or do they want other items in the colors (red & purple). For example, they might be looking for scarves (silk), scarves & mittens, beaded necklaces, bracelets and earrings - just to name a few off the top of my head.

You might also ask if you could visit some of the groups during their meetings to get a better feel for unique things you could make for them.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I think that I will have to ask what they are looking for. I know in our area there don't seem to be any Red Hat ladies around, it was at an out of town fair that the question was raised. Now that you mention Eastern Star, I remember when my boy's were in DeMolay it was the unique item's that sold not the emblem relating to the organization.
I told my friend who paint's on slate that she should do a magent's with the red hat on them, but I don't paint.
I have knitted the fun fur scarf's in the red and purple color's though.
Thank's again!!

Medway,
I used to belong to a red hat group. They are a crazy fun group of women. They will love your red and purple scarf's. Any kind of craft with the red hat theme. Like a red hat angel, or a red hat snow women, as a example. Anything with a lot of bling, bracelets, pins, necklaces, purses, gloves, hats with flowers, feathers, beads. You can make up scrapbooking pages, there are papers with the red hat ladies, in the scrapbooking stores. Google Red Hat Society and you will get alot of information about them.

Thanks Jake's mom, great idea's. I came across a red hat wreath pattern and it is made out of pretzel's of all thing's with feather's, purple fun fur yarn and button's and a red hat emblem. Going to try that one first and then go from there.

I hope not to make a negative post from my experience. I made a red hat snowlady as well as red hat sheep. I took them to the craft shop where I sell on consignment and she was thrilled with them. About 1 week later she called me and told me she was pulling them as she had had complaints from ladies belonging to the society that felt I might be infringing upon copyrights. I went to their site and they do have a link where one needs to apply to use the design. I decided not to go that route. I just wasn't sure what to do.

Oh wow guess that is a bad idea then, sure don't want to get sued over a red hat. Never thought of that. Thanks for the head's up, still might make the wreath as it really doesn't state red hat anywhere and only uses feather's and button's with some ribbon or yarn.
Might be safe with that.

Gotta be careful about copyright and trademark infringements. Some organizations will allow their memebers to use emblems and insignias for personal use, but there is a whole different set of rules when the use is "for profit", especially if the profit will go to a non-member. You might have to get a licensing agreement of some kind.

That's alful that cleo42 had to take back her red hat items. I think you could get around the copyright's on how you make your crafts. The color purple and red have been around longer than the red hats. lol.

Oh well there is alway's something for these thing's to make a buck. I will try my pretzel wreath and see how it goes. I know my friend sell's slate magnets with the team logo's and Nascar number's and no one has said anything about that and I see Disney item's out there so who knows for sure. Sure takes the fun out of thing's.

I would think that as far as copyrights go ...you could not use their logo but just because you put a red hat or purple scarf on something does not make it theirs. Just as Disney has a copyright on Mickey Mouse does not mean he has a sole rights to all mouse stuff.
Is there a possiblity that a Red hatter also had stuff in the store? Just my two cents worth.

i have a recycle idea that I made and sold it takes a soda or water bottle lid and a circle of cardstock I covered them with red sticky felt and used purple ribbon to go around the hat crown and glued a purple and red feather to the back of the hat put a pin back on them and on the brim I punched 3 little holes and used wire beads and charms and they sold very well no problem. If you would like to see how to do it just pm me and will email you the pattern

Just another two cents worth. A friend of mine who is a red hatter and also a crafter sets up a booth at all the big functions. She buys a lot of commercial items wholesale and makes quillows etc with rh fabric. But finds that people will buy the commercial mdse quicker than the hand made mdse. She is going to try checkbook cover at her next one and seems to think that might click. Who knows, crafting is always a guessing game anyway.

Medway, a quillow is a quilt and pillow in one. Quick overview.....
A blanket or quilt folded up to make a pillow .... on top ... if you were to fold the blanket in 3rds lengthwise...and then again widthwise you will have a square or rectangle piece in that area that you would turn inside out making the blanket inside.
There are free patterns all over the net. They were real popular about 10yrs ago. Even thought their popularity has gone down some they are still sellable (is that a word?)

Great description of a quillow, they are still popular here, this gf of mine sells 100's of them every year and has done so for about 20 years.

I'm a Red Hatter and our girls love anything red/purple. do you sew? Right now I'm making red/purple brocade covers for the little purse packs of tissues for my friends. I've also made small wallets out of red/purple because we seem to have cute small purses that a large wallet won't fit into. Also, cases for glasses, or any little accessory you can think of. Scarves are great too.

I made some red hat lady light bulbs and the ladies loved em. I know you have to be careful of copyright infringements etc but like one gal says, red and purple have been around a long time and there is no law against using that color combo. Man things can get pretty touchy that is for sure.
