Hi! Hoping someone with much more experience might be able to help me with a question.
I want to repaint these boats I did a few years back to make them look more 'aged' and change up the colors. I bought some Crackle medium but I'm stuck with a problem. Rather than trying to strip the old paint or sand until my hands fall off, I'm hoping to just be able to paint OVER them in the new colors and then throw some crackle stuff on top. The problem/question is: will the old paint colors show through the crackle? Example: the largest boat will be a solid goldish color, with a cream color on top. Once I apply the crackle medium, will just the gold show underneath or will all the other old colors show, too?
Note: I actually did attempt to strip the paint on a side of one of the boats, but all it did was strip the last color I painted and a really dark purple was left! I bought them at a thrift store so someone must have had them purple at some point, but that wasn't coming off for anything

Can't help you with your question. But wanted to say try posting this on the holiday board. There are a lot of painters there that may have answers to help you.
If you paint a coat of Elmers white glue over the areas you want crackled and then the paint you want to use on top of the dried Elmers you will achieve a "crackle" But don't forget if in the future you want a flat looking paint on these you will have to remove the crackled paint.
