What's going on? I used to watch HGTV almost exclusively, but I'm giving up. All the good shows are gone and we're stuck with Love it or Leave it, House Hunters, Property Brothers, and shows about rich people at a time when so many are struggling. Are TV executives listening to their audience?
I am sick, sick, sick of seeing Property Brothers (they are so annoying) and Love It or List It. I have always watched HGTV more than any other channel, but no more. Those to shows are on all the time!! What happened to all the great programming, David, Candice and all the winners of Design Start, etc?
I am sorry to say that I agree with you. I used to enjoy HGTV and now there is nothing to watch. I loved Candice, The High/Low Project, Curb Appeal,Outdoor Rooms, Sara's House and so many more. I don't understand why everything must be a contest either. What happened to providing excellent decorating inspiration? I am so very disappointed. Have all of the excellent designers like Vern Yip abandoned HGTV?
I have loved watching HGTV from it's inception but I would have to agree with a lot of what has been said above. Though I do like to watch, House Hunters, House Hunter's International, Property Brothers, and Love it or List it, I do miss the Curb Appeal, Backyard Makeover and Room Makeover type of shows that used to be on more frequently.
The thing I really dislike is how when House Hunters and House Hunters International started out they had more everyday person priced homes. There is nothing wrong to seeing the 3, 4, $500,000 and above homes from time to time but most of us watching your shows will never be able to afford homes priced like that. We want to see that there are homes out there that normal everyday people can afford or are within reach. Showing all the high priced homes tends to discourage people that already have enough to worry about in the economic times we live in. How about showing people that there is some hope out there and that can lift peoples spirits instead of breaking them down.
I do also agree that repeating the same show over and over gets monotonous. It is not bad to have 2 or 3 in a row but when the whole afternoon is filled with the same show, it gets old and I start looking for something else to watch.
I totally agree...I've just about given up on HGTV -- it's nothing but House Hunters, Property Brothers, Love It or List It. What happened to Color Splash, Divine Design, High/Low Project, Meg's Great Rooms, etc.? It used to be such a nice mix of shows that you never got bored -- now it is just the same thing over and over.
I also agree about the recent programing!! I have been a fan of HGTV for years however lately I can't find any good shows. I refuse to watch one more episode of Property Brothers or Love It or List It. I have never liked either show.
I also agree about House Hunters and other shows that show all the "rich homes" at this time in our economy. Besides most of us couldn't afford to come close to buying one.
Please, when will the new, old shows come back on? I would rather watch the old reruns than either of the above. This message has been edited. Last edited by: TX GG,
I agree with what has been discussed here. I began watching HGTV because I loved the design shows and the designers who starred in them, e.g. Genevieve is my all time favorite followed by Candace and Sarah Richardson. I do not like Love it or List it and all the bickering that goes on there. It is the same every episode only with different buyers. It seems that many shows, except for House Hunters, have a short run and then are gone or maybe back for a few episodes on a Saturday afternoon. What gives?
Agree 100% Such a disappointment. They may paint another picture here, but I'll bet the shows we love are the most expensive to produce, otherwise the demographic would not have changed so dramatically. It's such a shame, because HGTV's role as a big player in the field will die on the vine. PBS is already filling the void on Saturdays with good success so far.

I agree! I'm so tired of seeing the same 3 or 4 shows, and the repeats that go with them. It's not that I don't like the shows, but please, give us more variety. The Property Brothers as well as Love It or List It always have the same thing, there's always a problem, the job can never be completed as planned, the homeowners get upset then ultimately everyone is happy at the end. BORING! Please bring back variety. And million dollar rooms, REALLY? That's like a slap in the face to many viewers in this crumbling economy. Disgusting!
Agreed! Four of my friends and I were just talking about this. We all use to watch all the time. Now, it is like a real estate channel. Where are the decorating project shows, craft shows, and garden shows? We miss shows that demonstrate how to repurpose furniture (design of a dime, decorating cents, Dear Genevive, Carter Can etc.) create artwork projects (early David Bromstad), and on and on. I will look at what is offered and if it is Property Virgins, Love It or List it, House Hunters, or similar, I don't watch. What a shame. At least, it would be enjoyable if HGTV could offer some shows that are watchable for learning purposes at some times during the day. I hope they read these posts and change their programming.

I agree! But with that said, if people were watching, those programs would still be around.
I'm not certain why we have this recent shake up. I see nothing wrong with Love it or List it and Property Brothers/ Buying and Selling airing occasionally, but every night?!? It's just too much!
Did management change at HGTV? Anyone know? It just seems there have been sooo many changes over this last year it makes me wonder if they are trying to go in a new direction.
