Hi there,
I just wanted to stop in and say that I have watched HGTV for several years and frankly,I am getting really tired of the current schedule of shows. I mean.. how many shows about real estate do we really need? What happened to the shows where there was actual design and craft ideas? I miss those shows. I am so tired of House Hunters and Love it or Leave it, Holmes on Homes. Bring back Decorating Cents and the like. I know I am not the only who feels this way. Right???

Not enough people watched those shows. HGTV has had ever increasing viewership and revenues since putting more emphasis on real estate sector shows.

I'm not sure I buy that Chuck. This article is a year old and it seems they've been on the HH and HHI kick for a long time now. http://www.tvweek.com/blogs/tv...-to-be-losing-th.php

But, they are reflecting a trend at the HGTV/Food family and their competition over at Discovery - TLC to this type of show. For how to any more you need to go to their sister channel DIY Network. I'm not in either HGTV or Food's target demographic 29-54 year old females. I do like on Food Restaurant Impossible and the occasional Chopped but most of the other stuff doesn't interest me any more. The HH and HHI shows are very cheap to produce so if they sell any advertising at all they are making money. Frankly if my Cable Company gave me the option to drop HGTV from my line-up or to go ala carte I would drop it in a heartbeat. They just don't offer much that interests me or my wife who is in their target demographic. Oh and I spend a fair amount on money at one of HGTV's main sponsors, Lowe's Home Improvement and to a lesser extent Home Depot. They are currently loaded into my "favorites" on my remote control/DVR/Cable box but it is rare that I camp out at HGTV any more and I don't DVR anything on this channel.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
