I have watched several Love it or List it shows in the past 3 weeks. I can not believe that Hilary miss estimates EVERY show and leaves work undone. I would throw her out on EVERY show. Is she a real professional? She has no people skills. I can deal with the home owners attitudes but not hers. Also I can not believe she comes in on budget.

Terry,
Welcome to the boards and if you scroll there this board you'll find entire threads on this show and your very topic.

In a paragraph, the gist of the threads... Love It or List It is a scripted show. Every episode has the homeowners want the world for $20K. Hilary says, that's tough but I think I can do it. She runs into an issue that throws the budget out, this happens even to the best maybe not as often as it does for Hilary, but look back to the script and format. David meanwhile takes the couple around to several homes, none of which meet their criteria. The couple whines about Hilary not being able to deliver everything they want and David showing them homes way outside of their neighborhood or price point. He finally nails it on the last home and Hilary does a pretty incredible, if not scaled down, makeover. And about 60% of the time the couple loves it and Hilary "wins" and 40% of the time they list it and David "wins."

Bottom line if you don't love or even like the show, don't watch it. If you have HGTV on your cable system you have at least another 85 channels available or read a book. Complaining here about a program HGTV buys from a Canadian production company that gets good (for cable) ratings isn't going to change a thing. They don't read the boards looking for feedback. Scroll through this board and you'll find a dozen threads on the topic of their limited programming.

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I agree with Terry, this show is pretty stupid. I have been a big fan of HGTV for years, and am very disappointed with some of their new programs. Love or List it, Property brothers, etc. As Sparky says, don't watch it if you don't like. So guess, what HGTV, I don't watch. I'd rather watch the same episode of Curb Appeal 10 times as these fake reality decorating shows.

I happen to disagree! I totally enjoy Love it or List It,Property Brothers,Income Property, all of it. How they reimagine spaces and decorate amazes me,and I watch whenever it is on. Turn the channel if it doesn't appeal to you. The negativity here is unbelievable.

Bonnie,
Think most people would prefer that they have a few more programs in their schedule. HGTV and DIY both rerun the same shows over and over again. They also don't do much in the way of DIY programming anymore. If you're not a fan of LIOLI and you cruise over to HGTV and discover that the entire line-up that night from 6pm until 10pm is reruns of that show you're not going to be happy. Alas, I have 150 other channels to watch, most of which I never do, so if HGTV is doing a House Hunters marathon I turn elsewhere as I can't abide that show.

While my wife and I used to enjoy Gardening by the Yard, Designing for the Sexes and other HGTV shows of long ago, I don't pine away wanting them to run 10 year old reruns of those shows.
