I haven't posted on the HGTV message boards in a while but I just wanted to make sure the place was still here. TLC/Discovery just shut down all of its message boards a few days ago without any warning whatsoever. Just gone - POOF! I was an active member there for almost 10 years, mostly on the "What Not to Wear" board for fashion advice and tips.

I just thought to mention that here, not that there is any concrete reason to worry that this will happen here too, but it is a possibility. If you want to see this place survive, make your opinions known here and write to management directly in the "contact us" area. Not that this will make any difference as networks seem to do whatever they want these days in spite of what the viewers want, but it is worth a try anyway just in case they're planning to get rid of this board in the future.

It would not surprise me if HGTV shut down the message boards. They certainly don't pay attention to them any more. I belonged to Discovery's boards years ago, but much like HGTV I don't watch much of their shows any more. As a 52 year old male I don't fit into TLC's or HGTV's desired demographic. Discovery has a few good shows, TLC not so much. All the shows now seem to go for drama and conflict rather than DIY information.

General Disclaimer

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I completely agree. They no longer monitor reported abuses. No matter how many complain about an advertising post they do not remove them.

Abby has been gone for about a year and not been replaced. New shows are not posted and old shows/competitions are not taken down.

If there are posters you are board friends with you might want to get contact info now because who knows how long they will keep the boards up.
