I like the HGFV shows in general but I just don't get the need to do a recap of what has transpired during the show after they come back from commercial. It's not like we've been away for a week and might have forgotten the status. It was only a minute ago! We know all this - why are you repeating everything!?
I'm sure it's a cheap way to fill air time - play back footage and add a voice-over but it's stupid and infuriating.
I completely agree! Why not show more of whatever process that show is doing instead of wasting time doing a recap. I can sort of understand some shows that are 1.5-2 hours long but 30 minutes...come on even if someone comes into the show a little late I'm pretty sure by the end of that 30 minutes they know what transpired in the beginning of the show.

All the networks do this, Bravo, Food Network, etc.--I'm sure that it saves time and filming. It's annoying.
I'm beginning to think that with stations like HGTV or Food Network there is more loyalty to the station than to specific programs, so the recaps cut the cost of each episode. This way if you are only tuning into say half of one particular show, they aren't losing money.
HGTV, Food and DIY are owned by the same company. That said most of the shows aren't made by them but by outside production companies. It doesn't seem to matter what production company makes the show they all do it.
This is where watching shows on DVR comes in really handy. You can fast forward through the repeated information and the commercials. You can normally see a 30 minute HGTV show in 20 minutes on a DVR.
Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.
My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
