I used to watch HGTV religiously, but now only seldom watch. What happened to all the decorating shows? Loved Decorating Cents, Design Challenge, Design Remix, Sensible Shic (and the new High Low Project) all those! It seems now that there are a bunch of real estate shows. Realy how many House Hunters do you need in one Week?! In this economy of people downsizing or staying in a house we need ways to update or refresh what we have! Shows like Love It Or List It are a good start. But PLEASE bring back the decorating shows!
I am tired of watching realtors trying to sell cluster mcmansion all built with the same products purchased at the big orange box. What happened to the garden shows? This message has been edited. Last edited by: schgagirl,

I agree! I'm tired of all the real estate shows! Especially things that showcase homes in New York and LA, but are too high priced for the average viewer. These types of shows are fine as special presentations, but we don't need them every night! I'd love to see a new show like Decorating Sense, some kind of gardening shows, Designed to Sell back again, maybe a Trash to Treasure type show? Something similar to Cash and Cari, only not with the sales being the focus, but rather the renovation of the items she "re-purposed". And for heavens sake, please limit the House Hunters shows to one MAYBE two a WEEK!

I agree there are too many House Hunters but I can never get too much Divine Design! Am I the only one who dislikes Love It or List It? I find the way the realtor talks to his clients is offensive - he is just plain obnoxious. He gives realtors a bad name. The whole tone of the show is downright nasty. Maybe it's the closest my beloved HGTV can come to competing with reality shows where people scream at each other and are disrespectful in general.
I agree, its HGTV not RETV. I'm so tired of all the monotonous real estate shows. Where are the decorating and landscape shows? At least DIY maintains a variety, unfortunately my cable provider does not carry DIY, I miss it. Nonetheless, if the HGTV programming execs read this, please bring back the variety of shows! Thanks

Another boring day of HGTV... It's Saturday...used to be my favorite day of TV. Would turn on HGTV and leave it running all day soaking up the ideas and inspiration. After the second "Crasher" program I'm looking for something else. This network has become such a huge disappointment. Used to be my favorite...

I miss Sarahs House & I liked Candices "old show more. House Hunters International has got to go.... I'm interested more in real class decorating (like Sarahs house), tell me how to decorate, etc, not "Design on a Dime cheap. Does anyone really watch this show? You have alot of mature people watching, Help US decorate. And get rid of the Million dollar rooms & Million Dollar houses. Economy!! whey do I want to watch a show for over the top rich people, I can't use any of those ideas in my house. Thats an insult to struggling people and normal people. Come on HGTV- get back to what you started with that had me watching you!!
I agree with all of you!! I just posted something similar a few days ago. There is way too much real estate shows on now. And really, I don't care about what sells in LA or New York! I gave Love it or List it a try, but I don't like either of them. I thought HGTV was Home and Garden Television.....not real estate tv. I'm looking to switch to a cable provider that has DIY network.
I am also so tired of all of those Realestate shows. I rarely tune in to HGTV anymore, but this is not something new, this has been going on for a number of years now. I remember the old days when there were all different kinds of shows on HGTV that used to help you decorate your home. What happened?
I completely agree that HGTV has changed for the worse, having turned into Real Estate TV. I've posted the same thought on several threads, hoping if they come to the top, someone might pay attention. There are enough threads and posts from viewers expressing this sentiment that I'm sure we are only the tip of the iceberg. As mentioned above, I also used to put this network on and leave it running throughout the day for inspiration. No longer. I can't remember the last time I actually saw something I wanted to watch on there. Since it's looking like no one from HGTV actually reads any of these posts, I wonder if it would do any good to contact some of the advertisers?????

I agree with you,"DLHGTVMAM", My wife and I were joking to each other about taking the 'G' out of the,'HGTV'. Where are Ahmed and his backyard crashers? Gone to selling propane wasters.

Long gone is the GARDEN of HGTV. It was replaced awhile back by an evolution from grow it in your garden to throw in your yard (instant gardens) to build in your yard (outdoor space makeover/constructio projects) shows. And so too has my interest been replaced.
I agree with everyone. Too many house hunters, dislike Love It or Leave It. It seems staged. Miss the design shows. Miss Decorating cents so maybe a trash to treasure show would be great. Not into real estate shows. I have been watching HGTV less and less. I use to watch it all the time.
I too am frustrated that there seem to be very little decorating shows on HGTV these days. I used to watch HGTV almost contantly but now I rarely watche it. Although I am constantly checking the TV guide in hopes that it will return to decorating for real people not just looking at the homes of the rich and famous or real estate shows.

I was planning on riding out hurricane Sandy by watching HGTV all day. Was very disappointed at what was on. Really dislike House Hunters (International or otherwise). But that was all that was on. And today? Nothing but Property Virgins. Really can't stand to watch whiney 20 somethings with too much money concerned about whether they have a walk-in closet or not. What happened to the true design shows? Where is Sarah's House? FYI.. HGTV Canada has much better, more design oriented shows. Very disappointed in what we get in the States. What happened to Income Property, Curb Appeal? I could go on and on.
I am in full agreement with all of the above. I used to watch HGTV every night, almost all night - now I've gotten to the point where I've had my cable disconnected because there wasn't anything worth watching any longer. I'm sick to death of House Hunters and all of the real estate shows. I really MISS Decorating Cents and all of those design shows. Since you aren't showing any of those on the channel any longer, how about streaming them online so we can see them again? Would love to see Decorating Cents, all of the holiday house programs (Halloween and Christmas), What's with that House, City Gardener, etc, etc, etc. How's about it?
Joined this message board for the very reason as I find we all agree on. Where is design, lest I even say crafting. Miss the great design ideas, genius and creativity. Who is in the business of buying a house these days anyway? Small percentage. Bring back Candace, Vern, Sarah, Genevieve, and Tanya Nayak. I am sure you have many new designers to choose from also. Our creativity drive needs this.

Well, I might as well put my two cents in. I used to watch HGTV 24-7, everything was design shows. I've gotten so tired of House Hunters, it's ridiculous! The only real estate show I used to like was Design to Sell when Lisa LaPorta was designing, because she was so good. Please bring the good shows back to HGTV.
