Sooner or later the stainless steel craze will end. What's waiting in the wings to take it's place?

I saw an ad for Jenn-Air and their new Oiled Bronze appliances. I really like them. Anyone else seen them? How do you like them?

I like the oiled bronze. The only thing that strikes me, and that is because I am old enough, is that it kind-of reminds me of the old coppertone appliance color of the 50's and 60's.

BTW, I don't think ss will ever go completely out of style, like white never will. SS will always have its place in true professional kitchens (I mean Wolfe, Viking, etc, and not Kenmore, GE, etc) and in ultra modern homes (Star Trek).

I agree, stainless steel is very neutral and will always be around. It works well in many situations.

I remember coppertone too and that was my first thought when I saw the ad for the Oiled Bronze. I'd have to see the Bronze in person to really pass judgment. Just from the few close-up pics I've seen the bronze seems to have more depth than the sprayed on coppertone paint.

I wonder if given the new colours in washing machines and with stainless basically being fairly cool toned if coloured appliances may come back. Some rich reds or lemon yellows or something to really make the appliances more part of the decor. Not quite the 50's type colours, but more colour options than we've had in the past few decades.

Check out www.bigchillfridge.com for the "old is new again" retro look. It's not for the faint of heart.

I think that is the fear a lot of us have.

IMHO, the bold colors being offered on front loading washers and dryers, are a fad. I don't think you will still find that same shade of purple or green, being offered say 10 years from now.

While I am not anti-stainless steel, it really isn't for me. If I was going for a Viking, real professional, kitchen, then OK. I just want a normal, warm, home kitchen, where I can microwave my mac and cheese dinners. Big Grin

I was watching some show this afternoon on the TV Guide channel and they redid a house and put a fridge from Big Chill in the kitchen. It was the first time I'd ever heard of them, but it looked really cool. He had an old stove and they did the floor in blue and white check Linoleum. Very retro. Can't remember the name of the program.

I have also seen a graphite color. It's quite popular in Europe. I too am not a fan of stainless steel. It's a little bit cold looking for me. I have basic white.

There will always be something new and trendy for those who wish to spend the money?
I predict metalics with titanium looking coatings in all colors. Maybe even different texture options.

I just wish they would make quality/trouble free appliances with easily replaceable parts. Like that 1950-60 Philco refrigerator (still running non stop) we have in the basement! Wink

i love the bronze appliances. unfortunately for me, i discovered them a week after moving into my new construction home and had already had everything installed (stainless). i do like the rich colors of some of the new appliances--reds, blues, yellows. i even liked my coppertone range i had years ago in my old house!!

I got tired of stainless steel appliances 2 houses ago. Check out Viking's colors on their Exclusive Finishes page. They even have my favorites, white and cobalt. Big Grin

I have always had white appliances because I have to keep them until they die! I've seen so many fad colors come and go in the past 50 years, but unless you have the money to discard your appliances every time they go out of style (which seems to be every couple of years these days) you can't go wrong with white. I do wish you could get all appliances with changeable panels like some of the old dishwashers were made.

This is really showing my age & the age of my kitchen, but believe it or not, I still have a coppertone wall oven. The rest of my appliances are black, but I have never replaced the oven, because there is no new one that fits the space. Since the oven still works well (not that I use it very much), and the color blends in with my oak cabinets, I have just kept it as is. I guess I really don't see it any more.

I am a big fan os white appliances. I like the light they add to the space and the fact they are pretty much timeless. Concerned about the upkeep of SS.
When we first got married we rented a little trailer (60's) with turquoise blue appliances. Next was to an appartment with coppetone. Our house was built in the late 70's and had the ever popular harvest gold. Lucky me! LOL!
