Using shelter magazines and home decor catalogues as a guide (not gospel), I see that natural stone counters (honed or polished marble,limestone and granite)in light colors are most prevelant in bath vanities. Especially when paired with dark finishes on cabinet woodwork. This happens to be my favorite look so perhaps I am biased.
At the moment, my bath countertops are light cultured marble.
