I dread the constant repainting of old wicker pieces. But I am definitely not into plastic anything. Some of the new plastic all-weather wicker looks pretty good and "natural." Is it completely tacky???
maybe because i'm older than dirt but ease of care is something i highly consider when i am purchasing something...I've seen some of the new wicker that is to hold up to the weather better and i think it looks fine.....What works well for your life style???
I like low maintenance. It is just that I have regretted buying plastic in the past. I wanted split rail fencing, and DH insisted on the plastic rail fence. It looks nice, but bugs the *?!#% out of me!! I will replace it gradually, I hate it!! But, peeling wicker isn't so hot either, unless you have a very distressed country or cottage style going on. Oh well, I guess I'll stick with my old stuff for now. Anyone vote for "natural" plastic? Anyone vote for old wicker? What would you get?
Real wicker holds up well to the weather. What you have to watch out for is fake wicker. Looks like the real thing but is basically paper and falls apart in the weather. If you find "wicker" at a cheap price it is probably the paper stuff.

not at all, i've had wicker for years, and paint it with a roller and brush, i've seen the ones out now, just today a two tone brown, but both a brown. i'm painting mine brown this year. wish i could get the plastic, they have some beautiful ones.
We recently bought an "outdoor" wicker loveseat, two rockers, and two side tables with glass tops. I love the look and comfort of the pieces we purchased and hope they stand up to the elements. We live in the south and will probably get fitted covers to protect them in the winter. The cushions are only taken outside when we are relaxing on the deck. The vinyl looks like the real thing.
We have the outdoor "wicker." Plastic if you will but it (2-chaise lounges, 4 chairs, 2 loves seats and assorted tables) the stuff looks as good as the day we bought it and it is in the Florida sunshine and on the intercoastal..salt water spray. Now, if I could only find those no fade cushions that come in more than 6 tacky colors!
