I've heard that verticle blinds are 'out' and 'passe'. Well, I have vertical blinds & I love them. (They came with the house we bought 10 years ago).

What is the new trend in living room windows?Do I need to start saving money for a new purchase now? Big Grin

If you believe the decorators on hgtv, vertical blinds are out. Although one recently pointed out that they were still favored for patio doors. Most of their shows feature long flowing panels, either picked up for a song or decorator stitched out of on-sale fabric. What's in depends on the style of your home and decor, your personal taste and budget.

We did get rid of ours a couple years ago for two reasons:

-We'd had them for well over 10 years and I was simply tired of them.

-The dog and cats rubbed against them constantly and they were ALWAYS dirty. It was a lot easier to take down a twill panel and wash it than to hand wipe each individual slat of the verticals.

In or out had nothing to do with our change. It was all about personal taste.

i think it's important to make our homes comfortable for those living in it....While i am not a fan of vertical blinds, I do have vinyl roller shades w/ gimp trim on them - just like what Mom had back in the 50s and 60s!! But i don't care because they fit my need and when it is summer - & they are pulled down, my house stays probably 10 degrees cooler than if i didn't have them..Can't beat that!

Thanks, all, for your input. I'm still not tired of my blinds so I'm keeping 'em. Smile To heck with what the 'decorators' think.

BRAVO! As long as YOU like em, that is ALL that counts in my book.

Might want to revisit that live animals as hats thing though. Wink I do have to say that is probably the funniest sig line I have ever seen on the boards.

I've seen the HGTV show with the Shannon mother-daughter duo and the mother is always saying to remove vertical blinds. She even said that about vertical blinds in a master bedroom. The owners removed the verticals and put up panel curtains on each SIDE of the large window. My first thought was "what about privacy???" Just because one person doesn't like verticals doesn't mean they're out of style. I've had some of mine for 15 years (neutral color); others I installed about 5 years ago (also neutral color) to replace horizontal blinds. The verticals are a lot easier to clean. Think about this. If YOU like what's in your windows, everybody else should love it!

out on a limb I agree I love those shades and have plans on putting them in my bedroom. If you like the vertical blinds I say keep em. Personally I never liked them not even when they were in style. The previous owners of our last house had them on the sliders to the deck I took them down and put drapes up on either end and just closed the drapes at night. JCPenny has some "updated" looking ones like These

The only time you should really care about what's out decorating wise is if you are trying to sell your home otherwise do what makes you happy!
