I just spent a fortune on wood blinds for our new custom home. They are a very deep red cherry to match all the woodwork. Question is -are you suppose to put curtains over them?

It is really up to you. We did the same when we bought this home almost 6 years ago, and although I made window treatments for some of the rooms, the MBR went until last winter without anything other than the blinds. Then I decided I wanted just another layer for decorative purposes. I've seen some rooms that look complete with just blinds.

The house we bought 2.5 years ago, has gorgeous, custom, wooden blinds on every window...

...because they are dark wood, I only put swags at the top of the ones in the Great Room

I did nothing to the ones in the kitchen for the same reason (didn't want to make the window any darker)

I did do lightweight drapes on the Bedroom windows however because I like it totally dark for sleeping. Wink

There aren't any rules about this -- it's all how you want your rooms.

We had oak wood blinds made to match the woodwork for most of the rooms in our home. At the time, my plan was to add some kind of drapery or curtain over all these blinds. But, ya know, after the blinds were installed, some of the rooms/windows just didn't need anything else. The wood blinds were absolutely perfect by themselves.

It's up to you.
