I like white appliances. But since there's more options now; I would love a red washer and dryer. I think it should be your own choice of color since you have to live with it!!!
When we bought our house years ago I "inherited" harvest gold appliances. I was so happy when I was able to replace them. Colored appliances do limit your decorating options a bit. I like the clean, bright look of white appliance. Stainless steel seem to be the in thing for those upgrading.... although my sister says they are a pain to keep smudge free.

I have always had white appliances and I like them. We are building a new house and my husband wanted black appliances. The new house is not finished yet so I can't comment on how I like them. We didn't want stainless steel because of the difficulty in keeping it spot free. I have a coffe maker that is stainless and I can't seem to keep it free of fingerprints.
Christine, you go with what you like. Besides, who decides what is in and what is out? Hmmmmm do you think it could be the Appliance makers???

Hi all. It's timely that I stumbled upon this thread since I rarely venture from the Deco BB, but I just posed a search question re. the change over from black to white on my dishwasher. I recently upgraded my major appliances from black w/SS to white and am looking for the peel and stick metal film that is readily found in SS but in WHITE. I'm sure many have seen this product in SS used on HGTV and Extreme Makeover shows. If anyone can direct me to this product link, I'd be very appreciative. I know it exists because a while back someone directed me to it. In any event, my pick is clear..white. It's classic, clean and timeless. You can have upgraded and pricey appliances (if you desire and your budget permit) in white if that's your preference so there's no real correlation between quality or latest technology if you opt for white. I love it w/ my oak cabinetry and Sahara Corian countertops (yep...could have had the ever so popular granite, but have my reasons...ie. no seams, great warranty, intergrated seamless sink, etc.). SS will be on it's way out replaced by copper, cobalt or whatever the metal/finish/color de jour happens to come along. If on the other hand, you love SS or black, then by all means go w/ either.

Our new house came with white appliances so all of my appliances are white and I like them. I think it is just a matter of preference. I do agree the white does brighten up the kitchen and is so pretty and clean looking.
We have cleansteel and I love it, it looks like brushed stainless steel and is resistant to fingerprints.
That being said, there's nothing in the world wrong with white. It probably wouldn't be MY first choice because I like a modern or contemporary look (although white could look very contemporary if you had an all white or grey kitchen for example), but white appliances are fairly timeless!
I'd never replace a functioning appliance because of its color! If you're unhappy, how about painting them or looking into replacement panels? Or dishwasher has a front panel that can be changed from almond to black. My husband wants to have a sheet of stainless steel made so it'll match our fridge and stove. So there could be options if you're just not happy with white too.
In the 21st century, the trend is for warmer colors overall, and that is gnawing away on stainless steel's lock on high-end "professional looking" kitchens.
While stainless will stick around forever in true professional kitchens, home designs will start to drift away. One manufacturer is offering bronze, but only time will tell if that becomes the new warm appliance color.

My stove and fridge look like stainless steel. There similar but, they dont get the fingerprints as easily. I love them. I would love to have a colored washer and dryer but, we have white. I defenitely think its just all in what you like.
Are white appliances "out"? Decidedly not, as white is the only "color" that has been available continuously since modern appliances were invented. There are always other choices, avocado, harvest gold, copper, black and occasionally in some makes red, cobalt, green, pink and more recently stainless. But white is always available and cannot be out because it is not a trend, but is timeless.

I don't think White is out.. I think they just keep pushing SS. I'm not a fan of it have never been. while we do have some SS on handels no way would I want all my applicances like that. It looks cold to me.. we prefer black always have.. while we did have white in our first home, it was because that what we could afford at the time.. I always wanted black.. I don't follow trends.

I am old enough, that I still remember that "white" was standard on all major appliances. If you wanted Harvest Gold, Coppertone, Avocado, or Turquoise, you had to pay extra for it.
So, the major appliance industry has done a good job programming me to equate white with "cheap", "basic", and "uninspired".
Something my grandma would have in her kitchen.
