A couple of times on these boards I have helped people identify wallpaper manufactures, Lighting resources, identify antiques, recommend paint colors, etc. with no thank you in response. I think those qualify as a "not" and not a "hot"

Thank yous are always nice, but I never really/truly expect them on boards like these. Hopefully the help is appreciated by the poster and often even by others that read the posts.
I also never know what to do about acknowledging a board thank you? PM thank yous, I do respond, but on the boards it seems a bit like thanking someone who sent a thank you card?

I have to agree. How hard is it to acknowledge a helpful post?
Ditto Wanda. There is no excuse for not being polite enough to say thank you. After all, the person took the time out of his/her day to respond. The least one could do is acknowledge it -- even if they don't happen to agree with it. That's just basic good manners to me.
What always gets me about this is that often I will write a long thoughtful answer to the question someone has asked and then someone else will just give a drive by answer and then they will get thanked by the OP and I get ignored.
I think there is favoritism on these boards.
However there are also people who acknowledge kindly everyone who responds to a thread of theirs.

You are very gracious to share your time/resources. I agree; there is a 'broad spectrum' of ungrateful folks in this world. I appreciate your reminder that one should never be too busy to issue a thank-you.
When I request advice here/there, I will say "thank you in advance" although that is probably a tad tacky

I agree...saying thank you to someone who has made time and effort for you is just plain old good manners, even if it is by email or message boards. Message boards without messages are very boring indeed.

Unfortunately, the non responders will always be here to some degree and I know we can all relate from time to time. Tho I wholeheartedly share your dismay Charles, I must say that this doesn't seem to be the case w/ long time regulars who generally take the time to say "thanks". Cyber etiquette, or lack thereof, is an unfortunate reoccuring topic and frankly, not worth fretting over ( you can't fight city hall ). I'm sure these same people fail to respond on other BBs as well. It's indeed sad that people don't routinely take the time to acknowledge a responder who has taken their time to assist out of the goodness of their heart. Some might argue they'll do it after a few responders vs. individual responders and that's okay as long as the acknowledgement isn't long in waiting. I think what we'd most like to see is that they even read our imput. I know I sometimes wonder if they return as their thread nears pg. 2 w/ nary a sign. They need not agree w/ each response or may have solved the given dilemma in the meantime via another source, but it's nice when they let you know your efforts were not in vain.
