I love coffered ceilings and unfortunately, do not have the ceiling height for one. I had an idea of putting beams across the ceiling in patterned squares to achieve a faux coffered look. Does anyone know the minimum ceiling height required for this look? I have a 9 foot ceiling in my study and could put 6 inch deep beams.
8' is standard in many homes. Those folks that have that would only dream of a 9' ceiling to begin with. I think you have enough room to drop it maybe 4". I do not know of the magical standard height measurement. This might be a judgment call on your end cause I don't know of any rules as you are asking for. I say go for it!
