    Need some suggestions please!

    Question:
I'm going for a contemporary look in my newly renovated kitchen and the last detail will be my countertop. I picked out the granite slab but can't decide which look to go with for the countertop edging, a "straight edge" or a "bullnose edge"? What do you think?

    Choices:
    Straight Edge Countertops?
    Bullnose Countertops?

Check with your fabricator for other edge style options and pricing. There are ogee (OG), DuPoint, Full Bullnose, Half Bullnose, Eased, Beveled and others, depending on fabricator. See http://www.chicagogranitecountertop.com/Granite-Edges.aspx

Either would lend itself to the clean lines that define contemporary. If it were me, I'd probably lean in favor of a type of bullnose because a hard straight edge may tend to get chipped if banged against vs. a bullnose. Did I mention I'm hard on my kitchen? Razz BTW, I opted for Corian and have a multi beveled edge to it. Then again, my house isn't contemporary in design.

All of the edge profiles you mentioned are...well...common edges and if they work for you and you like them, that's cool but how about a Triple Waterfall? Cove Ogee? Cove Dupont? Stair Tread? Lots of options out there.

Nice bit of self-promotion/advertising there, FEDSAWDAVE Wink

Keep in mind: the more complicated the edge treatment/profile, the higher the cost.

To answer your question, OP, either choice you listed would serve a contemporary kitchen well.

I do love the straight edge but for me I'd probably go with the bullnose for the reason Froo Froo mentioned. I'm a little clutzy and I know I'd have a chip in a straight edge in no time.

ITA with others though - either selection would look really great in a contemporary kitchen IMO.

    I like the straight.

I think straight would be more contemporary.
