Check with your fabricator for other edge style options and pricing. There are ogee (OG), DuPoint, Full Bullnose, Half Bullnose, Eased, Beveled and others, depending on fabricator. See http://www.chicagogranitecountertop.com/Granite-Edges.aspx
Either would lend itself to the clean lines that define contemporary. If it were me, I'd probably lean in favor of a type of bullnose because a hard straight edge may tend to get chipped if banged against vs. a bullnose. Did I mention I'm hard on my kitchen? BTW, I opted for Corian and have a multi beveled edge to it. Then again, my house isn't contemporary in design.

All of the edge profiles you mentioned are...well...common edges and if they work for you and you like them, that's cool but how about a Triple Waterfall? Cove Ogee? Cove Dupont? Stair Tread? Lots of options out there.
I do love the straight edge but for me I'd probably go with the bullnose for the reason Froo Froo mentioned. I'm a little clutzy and I know I'd have a chip in a straight edge in no time.
ITA with others though - either selection would look really great in a contemporary kitchen IMO.
