Last year I had the most rewarding experience I had to share with everyone. My 3 year old granddaughter and her parents live in our home in an apartment downstairs. I really enjoy it because it allows me to interact with her on a daily basis. Last year we decided to grow a vegetable garden together. It was the most rewarding experience for both she and I. As we planted the seeds we talked about differences between a fruit and a vegetable. Of course she is only 3 so the conversation was on a 3 year old level but it really was quite amazing what she could understand and the questions she asked. Of course the next day she woke up, ran outside and expected the vegetables to have grown overnight! Her Mother and I went outside and watched this little figure peering at the ground sure there would be full grown tomatoes, peppers, squash, etc. Well, our next conversation was on time but time to a 3 year old is a little different than adult time. By the time we really did have vegetables I think my granddaughter was convinced the rabbits ate them but she was pleasantly surprised and we had a great summer together. I wonder....what will this summer bring with a 4 year old?????

We planted two apple trees in honor of our grandchildren. By the time they're old enough, the trees should produce fruit. Looking forward in sharing this with them, too. Now, the pruning season isn't the best time, they'll cut in places that needed to remain on the vine; but, youth is naive. Right now, we share our garden with an inquisitive young neighbor. He's taken quite an interest in it, - especially the strawberries.

I shared my posting with hub who started laughing. He said if anyone needs to be kept out of the garden while pruning it is ME. lol He says I prune way too much, when he sees me go out with scissors he worries. Seriously....it's not even summer and I can hear his voice,"You're not going to do any cutting, are you? The plants don't need another haircut."

Not sure why he worries. Our neighbors think we have a great garden during the summer.
