I also posted under "General Crafts" but thought maybe I should also ask here...
Has anyone used these types of clipart on their crafts and sold them for profit? I use the clipart part of disney faces (mickey, disney babies, etc) that I cannot draw and glue them onto foam but make everything else from pictures. Has anyone done this?
As long as the clipart is for public use and not protected by copyright you are okay. If it is not, be very careful. It is usually not a good idea to use a licensed logo or image on items you are going to sell for profit without getting permission from the company who owns it. Companies like Disney have been known to shut down people or websites because one or more of their character images were being used without permission. A small craft fair MIGHT be okay but at a retail outlet (i.e. on consignment) or on-line would be a big no-no, you could get yourself into some serious copyright trouble.
As a painter there has always been the discussion about if you only use part of a design or alter it you are not abusing copyright, wrong! If you use ANY part of a copyrighted design, logo, etc, it is still protected by copyright. This message has been edited. Last edited by: rainee,

Don't ever think you can fight Disney and survive. They have been notorious for law suits even against little crafters. It just takes one looker to turn you in for copyright issues. I would never take the chance.
If you use any copyrighted images (even sports), make absolutely sure you either have written permission or, as rainee suggested the images are in public domain or generic.
I generally deal with fabric and this has been discussed several times on the needlework/quilting board. I learned quite a bit from this site:
The problem with large companies (ie, Disney, sport teams, etc.) have more money than you do. While they may or may not be legally justified in filing a lawsuit against you, are you willing to hire legal defense and fight them?
Does this hat make my butt look big?
