Does anyone have a pattern for the old covered wagon type rag dolls that are made out of fabric scraps? They are constructed kinda like the corn shuck dolls, only made out of fabric strips.... anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you may have! Big Grin

Oh, what memories. My grandmother used to tear up all the old clothes, sheets, scrap fabric, etc., wrap in balls and then when she had lots, would send to the Amish to weave rag rugs.

But very special fabic, kind of color coordinated, she would cut and make me a doll like this every now and then. As a little one, I just loved them.

Thanks for finding those directions, Joy, I just might have to make a couple for nieces. Who knows, maybe one for myself (it's not as if I don't have plenty of fabric stashed Roll Eyes)

Thanks ladies for the help.... I enjoyed reading about your memories, Sharon... gave me a better picture of what these were really about.

Joy ~ thanks so much for the link... that's exactly what I wanted. I'll post a pic when I get one completed.

Thanks for sharing, and hope you both have a blessed day Big Grin

here instructions for corn husk dolls - so you could also probably braid the strips for arms and legs as an alternative

My daughter was given a handmade doll when she was born many years ago and I'm trying to find the pattern for it.
It was a soft doll with a dress and bonnet and when you put the dress over the head the other side of the dress was a nightgown with another head that was sleeping.
I would love to make this doll for a special baby that will be born this summer. Has anyone out there ever seen this doll and know where I can find a pattern for it?

Here they are, the second one is made from spools but you could make a soft body:

Oh my goodness, what memories these have brought back. I made the yarn dolls this weekend, tonight I will start the topsy turvy doll. My grandmother had a topsy turvy that she kept in her pantry I so loved playing with it.
