In years gone by...this message board would be full of thousands of DH posts, but since the Super Fan Blog has been up and running it seems as if most of the Dreamers have moved on there...Does anyone know why???

Not sure about the "intimate"- the nasty comments I have seen here don't strike me as intimate. We know each other fairly well on the Sweepstake Blogs-

Well I tried to post but gumbies snatched it...
Simply saying it used to be much MUCH more int imate here in MB land pre blog days....and we knew each other fairly well, road trips, local meetups...PM's that lasted for years....familiar with dozens of peeps...sure like any public forum t r o l l s happen and some peeps surface as a l t e r s just to try to entertain selves and create havoc.... So I suppose I am reflecting on past 7 years...moreso a few years back...and the fun we all had...I still prefer MB format playtime, glad you surf both and have fun that way...will make you a great source of sleuthing for those who do not read blogs.... .

The blog versus the MB?
The Blog is a place for the "adverts" to embrace. It's odiferous scent tells of an agenda, well bent...
But the MB is som'mat more sublime... it is more of an explorer's wide portal; It is where folks realize you're still very mortal... 'Cause you put on your pants one leg at a time.
But give the bloggers a chance, a fair fight, where else do propagandists, their salary make? A Blog is a sales person's, "quarry," and that's pretty much the whole story... When you're finished, please turn out the light.

The blog is nearly structureless and unorganized. It is highly repeditive and contains dubious info, which is then repeated and eventually is offered as 'fact'. The MB is less so.

I miss the old message board fun too. In fact, it's so funny, I just took an HGTV survey and they asked what they could do to improve the Dream Home experience and my big answer was "Bring back the old Message Boards". It used to be so much fun that I would spend most of my online time here.... I would be on HGTV site most of my online time, either message boards or looking at dream home and products. Now? I have to remind myself that I haven't been here for a few days. I think they may have thrown the baby out with the bathwater.
One of the worst things they've done is limit the time frame of the Dream Home message boards. They shut them down. We used to come here all year!

the blog is a slog. impossible to get through. i do like that the blog offers a "like" function though. wish the MB had something similar.
i often find that i really enjoy an individual's post but feel it's a waste of everyone's reading time and space to respond with some vague pleasantry that doesn't add more fully to the discussion. wish the MB had a thumbs up button!

I feel the same way. There's some useful stuff hidden in the blog, but I'm not going to read through 4000 comments to find it!
Honestly, though, I'm glad that HGTV created the blog and trimmed back the message boards. Like the vast majority of contest entrants, I check out these sites to find out more information about the dream home. All the "social" posts just clog up the site and make it harder to find information about the Dream Home.

Thumbs up, thumbs down? This is too nice a place for that. What ever happened to the, "Scroll on by"?
'Course, we have used the ice bucket-over-the-head routine on occasion. Blogs have unrestricted advertising, and their flubious activity (I didn't say dubious. Wouldn't think of it.) The Message Board however, discourages that because of HGTV rules. The hidden agendas, where contractors, sales people and ideologues are behind a post, are everywhere, MB and blog. Often one can sniff them out. (sound of inhaling, and a cough. ) But MB seems to squelch that type of post more quickly without shooting them in the posterior.
PS TangoW doesn't ah, er, engage in ideologuistic activities on Thursdays, or Feb 29th. He thanks you for your indulgence through the years. This message has been edited. Last edited by: TangoW,

The blog has no threads and I don't have time to read through 1200 posts. BeeHiveState lives by this year's Dream House and I do enjoy her posts on the blog. She's put up a lot of great pictures and local info. I miss the old MB. Nice to see activity here this year.

I have wanted to give the blog a chance, but have not been able to figure out how the blog works., I think because it is one long continous conversation, so where do you step n to comment? I commented a couple times, but then could never figure out where it posted. With the MB, I know exactly how it works and where to respond. I do miss the many who had been here for years dreaming with me about the dreamhome.

Hi Steve, After my post last night, I decided to fiqure out the blog this morning. Super fan has some neat videos where she explores inside all the cabinets, drawers, and closets. I enjoyed that. Women are always interested un storage spaces. It was informative, but I still miss everyone here on the MB.

a "blog" is a portmanteau, or a word created by merging two distinct words into one. in the same way that "smog" is the merger of smoke and fog, "blog" is the merger of web and log.
Essentially, HGTV is the blogger in this case and interested readers comment on the blog. The blog itself isn't confusing, it's trudging through all the comments that is such a hassle and so impersonal! but, perhaps your post was rhetorical...

On the blog if you register with Intense Debate then yuo can find all of your posts and see if there are any replies- you can aslo have replies sent to the email address that was listed. You can also follow your favorite commenters. As I said in one post on here- two bloggers who met on the 2010 NM Dream Home blog got married last year! Now that was great. On the blog we also get clues to the new sites for the DH, UO, GH and DIY Blog Cabin.
Right now the DIY Blog Cabin has voting going on for the components to be included in the Maine Farm House. Come over and give it a try. http://blog.diynetwork.com/blogcabin/

Beachlady, so glad you dropped in, I have wondered how things were going with you. The old message board flowed with friends and i miss that, but I still enjoy sharing the dream. It actually never closed this year, just smaller scale until the new home answered. As i did mention I have been enjoying the videos and occasional tour on the blog. I am glad I sort of figured it out, but MB is home. We have had friends here put the clips of the clues and other new stuff on the blog which kept us in touch with the whole DReamhome view.
Keep the dream!

Hello Mue, my ant farm guys are doing great! If I win the Dream Home, I'm gonna give them the child's playroom off the living room and let them run loose in there every Monday, Wednesday & Friday so they can get some excercise. I just have to remember not to let Hoppy, (my pet frog,) in there on those days. His veterinarian put him on a high protein diet so I have to keep him seperated from my ant farm guys.

I agree...the message boards are far more interesting. Who wants to read through all of those posts that are so repetitive because folks ask the same questions because they don't have time to read through them all to find the answers.
I feel like people have really abandoned the message boards lately. They don't really promote them it seems.

If it's so silly, why have you posted 7 times on this thread? You seem to take it awfully personally that people like the mb better than the blog. Now that seems silly to me.
I think many of you are too defensive- MY POINT is that there really is a place for BOTH. Why that makes YOU insecure I don't know.
But I will tell you one thing on the Blog they would not be nasty, rude, or cendesending. So maybe they have something there.

I've seen plenty of nasty comments on the blog in the past. When I use to try to read through all of the many many comments.
People are people wherever they are. I just wish more were here because I'm so very tired of reading through the thousands of comments on the blog. Plus...they simply don't blog enough. I wouldn't mind if they posted daily but we are lucky if they do it weekly.

I am new, in a sense, to the MSG Boards. I have been an outsider looking in here since 2004 and finally decided to join. I have really enjoyed all the humor & insight that the msg board has provided. I'm a dreamer too and it's been fun to read your posts. Why I never joined until now, not sure, except for the fact that I don't like the nasty comments that others make on the msg board towards the winners. The usuals on here don't post those! So, thanks for letting me tag along all these years! This message has been edited. Last edited by: valley2,

Thanks Fanci! I forgot to mention that I live very close to the 2012 Dream Home & will be touring it on the 11th. One side of my family grew up in Heber Valley so, I know the area quite well. Can't wait to see it! As a little background info, I am orginally from a town right next to the Tyler, Texas Dream Home (one of my personal fave DHs).

Hi Prof, If you had been here many years ago, you would understand, we were more like a family. I think you would have enjoyed the group and the fun we had. Those you referred to are some of those who have been posting here for years and boy did we have fun with our dreaming. Anyway, this is some dreamhome and I can hardly wait to hear from those who tour. Their thought and comments are such a part of the dream. Sonoma was the only dreamhome I have lived close enough to visit (500 miles) and it was a wonderful experience. Valley2, I loved the Texas dreamhome too!
