i had some mold on my wood countertop because its been so humid lately. Ive used a cleaning product containing bleach. It took some of the mold out but not all of it. I woke up this morning with my countertop looking like this!!! Can it be sanded down & refinished ? or its totally ruined now, i am freaking out!!!
Relax. You have not permanently ruined it. It can be sanded clean and uniform again. You might try some mineral oil on a bit of the bleached area first, just to see if the color returns?
Depending on how you use it (if more like a piece of furniture, one could varnish with a solvent based poly) or if you like to use it for food prep/chopping, oiled with butcher block oil (mineral oil)
thanks for the reply, i will try the mineral oil first and if that doesn't work i will seek some professional help, thanks again
im just happy that its not permanently ruined
I thought I had ruined my butcher block kitchen cart by putting a hot pan on it that scorched the top. There was also a burn mark on the side from something else. My carpenter sanded it and applied mineral oil. You can't tell that anything had ever happened. I was afraid that the surface would be slightly uneven, but no. It's perfect.
Is that a laminated type of wood? if so, that's hardly find anyways to restore.. but if that is a plain wood, you can just refine it with sanding paper and have it polish with varnish. You may want to see here what type of furnishings those laminated woods are perfect to use for.
