Needed to just replace the flapper on my toilet and I let the kid talk me into getting a whole replacement kit for the float--"No problem--just follow the directions". So I begin to take the thing apart and because it had corroded so bad I stripped the screw head that attachs the tank to the bowl. So in other words I'm s c r e w e d. Anybody got any ideas short of blowing the thing up!!!

    Hi,

Drill it out. Start with about 1/8-3/16" drill bit, then progress to a larger size until the head falls off. BTW, you're supposed to just hold the screw head that is inside the tank and loosen the nut from below.

    I've NEVER made a mistake, I thought I did once...but, I was wrong!

I like Jazz's idea, but, instead of drilling the head off, try drilling into it. Have someone hold the drill in a way that will not let the bolt move while someone loosens the nut below, or try gripping the head with a pair of gripper pliers, while another unscrews the bolt below?

Next time you come across a very rusted out bolt like this one, try spraying it with WD-40 or JB Blast before trying to unscrew it.

Where were you people a few days ago--thanks for the help--I think this is beyond my scope of home improvement and I'll need to call in for help. At least another pair of hands---Seriously, thank you for the ideas!!!
