We are finally ready for countertops! I was going to do granite, but because of budget issues my husband and I are looking into other diy options. We saw something called skimstone and were also looking into doing concrete countertops ourselves. Someone also told me about a laminate that looks like granite, but I don't know what it's called or what it really looks like. If anybody has good advice, has ever heard of skimstone, or has other ideas I would really appreciate it!

4girls: Are you talking about RAZRstone or Durathin? These are both actual granite super-slender products that are applied similarly to a laminate. You can search on both via Google and should be able to get information. The color/granite selections are a bit limited; however, I know a hotel that used the Durathin in its shower surrounds and it came out quite nice.

Alternatively, some of the laminates available now are really amazingly good-looking, and some are hard to distinguish until you get very close. Good luck.
