raph61Can we still use our downstairs bathroom while re-doing upstairs one?
We are going to be renovating our bathroom. Replacing the tub , sink, toilet, tile etc...
We will need to shut off the water to that bathroom, but I was wondering if we could use the downstairs bathroom while renovating the one directly above it?

SparkyAs long as you can turn the water off to the upstairs bathroom without turning it off to the downstairs bathroom, certainly. Be sure to seal the waste lines for the toilet and anything else where the trap is removed while you are renovating the bathroom, you don't want sewer gases coming in through the drain lines.

Bob FlemingSparky's comments are right on!
Question: Can you turn off the water for your tub separately? Usually builders do not install shutoff valves for the water to a tub. If not, you may have to install temporary plugs in the tub water lines.

conradI knew a family that redid their one and only bathroom with 4 kids in the house and it took a week. They reseated the toilet every evening, and kept a bucket of water nearby for occasional flushing. (smile)
