I have a collection of beautiful plates in all sizes and would like to make them the backsplash in my new kitchen. My contractor tells me that some are much thicker than tile and won't hold.
Any ideas as to how I can get this to work?
Thanks.

You can get them to hold ok, but it would be a dust collector unless the grout between them was level. That would be hard to do! So, basically, your contractor is right.

Could you just leave your backsplash drywalled only (not tiled) and hang your plates in the area? That way you coud remove them to clean and replace or rearrange when you wanted.
