What is the average cost of installing a simple bathroom in an existing room? Plumbing is close by.

You need to get a quote from a local contractor who can look at the situation. Many times the major initial cost is the toilet drain. He will need to see how many floor joists will have to be drilled or cut to get the drain in place.

Also depends upon what you call a simple bath; half bath with just toilet and sink, or 3/4 bath with a shower as well. Also depends on what the subfloor is; concrete or wood over a basement, etc, etc.

Sorry, but there is little help we can offer without knowing more.

Another cost factor is venting. Plumbing vent for one thing and vent fan for another. The code usually requires at least a window or a powered vent fan.
