We have Swanstone (corian look alike) in one shower and have been pleased with no grout to be concerned with. The base is a preformed, matching acrylic. Very solid feeling.

I installed a couple shower-over-tub bases made of fiberglass a few years ago and they were pretty solid. I reinforced them with mortar underneath as I set them in place to get the best feel.
