I just had a Travertine floor put in my kitchen in January. I keep getting holes in it, like its flaking off,and it keeps happening. Does anyone out there have this problem? I need help! When I contacted the place where my Contractor purchased it, they told me to buy a filler and fill the holes in. Some of the holes are small and some are as big as a pencil eraser.Because the holes look black, and the travertine is light,my floor looks like its not clean.

Has your tile been grouted? If not this would help stop the flaking and would fill the holes that make the floor look like its not clean

Yes, it is grouted. The holes and flaking are in the middle of the 12''x 12'' squares. I except that it has imperfections, but this is like its deteriorating in spots. Would it have anything to do with improper sealing?

Tough to say without seeing it, but one possibility is that the epoxy resin fillers used to fill the holes may be defective and not staying in place. This is applied at the factory so nothing you or the installer did is faulty. If this is the case then sealing had nothing to do with it. I would contact the place where the tiles were purchased and have them take a look.

Yes, could be problem with installation. We had something similar happen with marble. Check the installer or take samples to tile store.
