Last year I started a new planting bed along the one side of my house. I was going for a Japanese feel and planted a Japanese maple and Hakonechloa grass. I wanted to complete it by planting Japanese anemones, however I have heard that they spread quickly. Does anyone have any experience with them? I wanted to know if they are easy to control, ie just pull out what I don't want, or will it take over the bed?
I'm no expert on them, but I planted a white one and, yes, they do spread by underground roots. I noticed shoots coming up a few feet from the original plant. I really dislike plants that do that so I pulled the whole thing out. I now have a pink variety but it's going to be planted in a container (wine barrel probably) so hopefully it will be okay. I don't know if both varieties spread the same, but I don't want to take any chances. Very pretty flower tho. My mom has the pink variety also and said the birds brought it. It seems to stay where it's planted.
