I need to block out my neighbors ... something fast growing ... I've been seeing these Hybrid Willows (Salix) in nursery catalogs lately, are they any good? Does anyone know anything about them?

In some pictures they look like out of control bamboo, but in other pictures they look pretty decent. I don't want anything that will be too invasive on my neighbors property, but I also need something high as both our decks are high off the ground...so a fence is not tall enough.

My neighbors relocated their driveway, so now their driveway abuts my backyard ... they basically made their backyard a parking lot.

Any suggestions on something fast growing, grows high, but not real wide!

Hi. I have never heard of a hybrid willow? I did a Google image search and found a few pictures however, some info too. I have a "regular" Salix willow in my front lawn. It's a tree. These hybrids seem to be more like wild trees, almost shrub like? It looks like it might be good for your location! I'm looking into them myself now for along the back yard. Keep in mind though, in the winter they loose their leaves. That means for those few winter months, you will see your neighbors "parking lot"! Have you considered something more on the evergreen side? A combination of both mixed? This way there's always something blocking the view. Place the evergreen in exact locations where you want to block a certain view. At least that way you'll know the worst parts will be blocked year round. The non evergreens can fill in the areas. Sometimes it looks too preplanned if you use all evergreen, or all one type of plant.
