Does anyone know the best way to put down a floor in a screened in deck to keep insects out. We are planing on doing a new deck but need to know what kind of floor works best.

Tongue N groove flooring is tight & would keep out pest. You can get wood, but would have to have on slant for water run off & PAINT always! Or Tendura offers a tongue N groove flooring that is maintenance free. (costly) I have thought about ways to keep pest out also, if we replace our tongue N groove floor with a regular decking board. I even wondered if you could attach screen under the floor to keep bugs from coming up through it? Just a crazy thought.

Screening the underside is a good idea, but thought has to be given how to clean the debris that will fall through. The screening will have to brought down occassionally.

The best way is to simply enclose the sides. Exterior wood, like used for sheds, can be cut and vertically nailed from inside the facing board to soil line. If the bugs can't get below, they can't get above.

OH You just gave me an idea. We have vinyl lattice between our foundation columns. I could put screen on back of them & then not have to think about debri falling through floor. Thanks Now What! Sophiekitty, This may be a thought for you too, if you do a regular deck floor.

At our previous home we build a deck and didn't go with the screening under the deck floor and we never had any problem. Used citronella candles during the summertime just in case of mosquitos. If we were to do it again, I'd either used some of the new tongue and groove wood or poured a concrete slab and built the sunroom on top of it. It depends on how your main house is designed. We had a split foyer and our living room had a sliding door entrance so we had to build a deck to it's height, then make it into a sunporch.
