Hey all,

I just purchased my first home. There is NO landscaping done at all. My first project I would like to tackle is to get something going on in the front of the house to give it some character. There is a bed area between the side walk and house that needs some filling. I'm a total design and landscaping newbie, so I'm open to some budget friendly and creative ideas.

Don't be in a rush to 'do something'. That can lead to disappointment and give up trying.
Instead, view everything you can lay your hands on to get some ideas; not to copy anybody, or anything, just to have some idea what foundation plants do for a home. Look to how plants make.....or break, the look.

One big mistake many homeowners make is to forget that plants grow up too; a small plant put near the entrance can grow to size that soon blocks the view.
Plant with mature size in mind or the ability to be able to cut it back without destroying the look.
