Hey everyone,
The city had to access a water line in our front yard, before we moved in because our future house was foreclosed. Anyhow, they left a huge pile of dirt and rocks in our yard which is an eyesore for us, and our neighbors. I dug alot of the soil off so I could replant seed, hopefully to cover the huge pile of dirt with some grass. The drain, or water line is exposed however. My question is, do I need to have this covered well? Or can it be covered with soil and lawn, and will we need to mark the`drains location somehow? If anyone has any insight on this please let us know. Thanks Chris and Amy |

Call the city and tell them to come clean up their mess. They're supposed to recover the line and fix it back as nearly as possible.
I wouldn't leave that pile there even covered with grass. Did they actually leave the line open so someone could fall into it? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Sis2, |

I agree, for whatever reason they opened up your ground---it is your ground is it not?....but in any case, they should have informed you that such work was going to be done and was done.
They should have also informed you when you could expect the putting it back in how it was before. The city has the authority to open up water lines where it is necessary but must restore ground when it is most opportune. Call your councilman and ask what is going on. He is the person most next to the guy who should look after you. |

You bet, call the city. They're not supposed to leave their diggings like that. It's part of their job to leave the area as close to the way the found it.

No they had it covered by the massive dirt and grtavel pile. I dug off the top two inches to lay new seed. I will call the city ot see what my options are though, thanks. I just want to make sure it is covered or marked properly, and safe so we don';t hit it with a mower or anything.
Thanks again Chris and Amy

I would demand that they clean the mess up properly. If they gave me any attitude or blew my off, I'd probably threaten to get ahold of the local news station and let them know of the city's neglect.

Making demands will get you nowhere.
If you get someone else in on the problem,...the city councilman...he is best to soothe feathers, to ask questions why something was done the way it was done and when the homeowner can expect his ground to be put back into its former state. The councilman is the guy who can go to the source of the fix-up. He can then call you..or have someone call you about the assurances the city will give you. Getting one's back up...is just another way of always standing up....never sitting down to hear the answer you want to hear. |
