I have Gophers in my yard and well they have basically destroyed everything. My grass is all dead and i have so many holes it looks like a mine field. My question is, how can I bring my lawn back to life? With all the holes when I step on my lawn I kind of sink down a bit. We are controlling the gopher situation , now I have to deal with my dead lawn. any
suggestions? How do i fix the sinking lawn/ground issue?

I always try to fill in the holes as best I can. Using a metal rod I try to find the run which goes pretty horizontal. Then I put in a little dirt and pack in with a broom handle. Repeat, and repeat and repeat. Sometimes I use more dirt than is in the mound and sometimes less beause I have trouble finding the run.

Maybe someone else has an easier way.

Is your lawn "dead" because of the heat and lack of water many of us have experienced this year or is it simply dormant? Most grasses try to go dormant in the summer and look brown and dry and "dead" to many people but only require adequate soil moisture to green up again. Unfortunately this provides a better habitat for the gophers so they become more active. Perhaps this link will be of some help.
