We do not have a mailbox and we are set back from the road. Therefore, numbers on our house would not show. We do have a large boulder at the end of our drive. I had wanted to have it etched w/ the address but it was SO expensive. I'm looking for ideas (pics would be great) to incorporate that rock, somehow display the address, and planta/flowers. The rock is probabley 2 1/2 ft wide, 2 ft tall, 2 feet deep.

    Thanks a bunch!!!

I just was looking around on the web and saw address plaques attached to fake boulders. Does anyone know if you can attach a plaq to a rock? That would be WAY cheaper and look nice.

prob the same way you attach a mantle to a fireplace chimney... drill holes, set anchors and then screw it in... out there, too, I'd add in some clear adhesive silicone to seal it all up....

    like toots said,drill holes,insert anchors,etc.

However, if all you have is a 1/4" or 3/8" drill, don't bother because all you'll do is either burn up the drill bit, burn up the drill,or both. Those 2 sizes of drills are not strong enough to be drilling into solid rock...you'll need a 1/2" or bigger drill(if it was me doing it,I'd see about renting a 3/4"-1" drill). These size drills are better for doing this kind of heavy duty work.

After you get the holes drilled out, make sure & blow out any remaining dust, then squirt in some silicone sealant, then insert the anchors(making sure that the silicone covers the entire hole;on the back of the plaque, put some more sealant & then use screws/bolts to fasten the plaque right away.

    Here's another Idea.

Make a box with a light inside of it, so your address will be seen from the road.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

Keep in mind, that a common flashlight will throw a beam of light that can be seen from 5 miles away;you wont be able to read anything from that far away, but others will see the the light.

    I hope this helps.

I like that plaque, Master James. Is it solar? It looks like the screws are angled into the sides. Would that attach to the rock with the method you mentioned?

Thank you for the info. I'm afraid DH would break it on installation...is that a possibility? He is fairly handy...

Great website..several ideas that maybe you could use. Why don't you have a mail box out by the road? Have a post office box instead? You mentioned a large boulder out by the road, have you ever thought about painting the address on that? I know of a house that sits right on a main road that has a large boulder in their front yard and the address is 10000 and the owners have painted on that boulder 10000 reasons to be happy. It's been there for years, don't know what kind of paint they used or have often it has to be repainted. That may be a cheaper way yet but like the idea that the person gave you. Expecting a pizza deliery?
