Useless Sun Room - Need Ideas!
I have a sun room off the back of my house that is pretty useless. The window panes are very thin so in the summer it is about 120 degrees in the room and in the winter it is whatever temperature it is outside. Anything I store in the room gets sun damaged. Water leaks through when it rains or snows and I just can't seem to find a good use for this solarium. Any ideas? People have told me that getting rid of the room will devalue my house, but I wonder if building a deck would be a better use of space. Any advice or ideas would be great!

wish you could post a picture...first repairing the roof is a must...until it's pretty much water proof, it's hard to suggest more...

If it has a foundation, could you just rebuild the walls and roof?
We have one that is about 11 x 17 foot (two sides are against the garage and house). As I recall we bought 6 argon filled and UV glass, screened slider vinyl windows and a combo screen door for about 1,500 dollars. (Granted that was 15 years ago.) Side walls and ceiling space double walled insulated. Created a 3 season porch that is now an art studio most of the year.

A lot depends on what exists now, your layout, and your climate/area as well as how you (or future owners) might likely use the space. Photos and a better description might help.

If it is on a foundation, maybe consider making it a useable addition on to the home. If it is as useless as you make it out to be as it sits, then I can't imagine taking it down would be a devalue to the home. Maybe a nice deck and pergola would be a nicer option for you.

My sunroom is the same except the roof is sound.
I use it for my hot tub. No running out in the winter and shovel to get to it-and my bones appreciate the tub!

"People" do not live there. If you cannot use the room as is, tear it down and rebuild. Or tear it down and build your deck.

I have a screen room that is usable only for short times in the fall and spring. In addition to either being too hot, too cold, or too wet, it is also too dirty especially during pine pollen season or when mowing season comes along.

I received a small inheritance from my mother and mentioned putting in inexpensive double-paned windows, insulating the attic, and installing an all-in-one window unit for a/c and heat. My plan was to leave the bare concrete floor as the room would continue to hold patio furniture and my houseplants. Husband started planning bigger and better. I had to stop the entire project since I was going to do the funding. We did not need another everyday room. I only wanted an overflow room for those few times that all the family was here and we needed extra space.
